Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Trade
Industry and Cooperatives responsible for standardization, Quality Assurance,
Metrology and Laboratory Testing (SQMT) with the objective of facilitating fair
trade, promoting local industries and Consumer protection. The Uganda National
Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Trade,
Industry and Co-operatives established by the UNBS Act Cap 327 and became
operational in 1989. It is governed by the National Standards Council and
headed by the Executive Director who is responsible for the day-to-day
operation of UNBS.
Job Summary:  The Senior Risk Management Officer will ensure
that operational risk exposures are proactively identified, adequately and
efficiently controlled through performing the following duties;
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Keenly review and assessment of inherent
    risks associated with new and existing processes, products, systems and
    people, and make relevant recommendations
  • Develop tools/mechanisms for monitoring
    compliance with internal policies and procedures and recommend appropriate
    measures for non-compliance
  • Review and assess risks associated with
    changes of existing processes and systems and recommend appropriate
    mitigation measures
  • Coordinate the implementation of control
    self-assessment and ensure that control gaps are identified and closed.
  • Analyze report incidents, draw learning
    lessons and sensitize the rest of the staff to prevent future occurrence
    of similar incidents
  • Monitor and ensure that action points
    regarding risk incidents are implemented appropriately
  • Monitor developments in the environment
    to identify potential risk exposures and prepare relevant risk report to
    inform management of emerging risk exposures
  • Develop appropriate tools for monitoring
    operational risk exposures
  • Prepare periodic and ad hoc operational
    risk reports (KRIs, top risks, incidents, risk dash boards etc) and submit
    to the Head of Risk
  • Undertake operational risk awareness
    sensitization to improve the culture of risk management

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant for the UNBS Senior Risk
    Management Officer job opportunity should hold a  post graduate qualification in business
    studies from a recognized 
    University/ Institution
  • Possession of Honours Degree in BBA,
    BCOM, B. Economics or related fields from a recognized University/Institution
  • Possession of relevant professional
    qualifications such as Certified Risk Management Professional as added
    advantage
  • A minimum of five years of prior
    experience with a 2 year work experience in a busy business organization
    or professional services firm, preferably in Risk/Audit/Operations
    departments.
  • Hands-on supervisory competencies with capacity to multi-task and
    deliver results efficiently with minimal supervision
  • Proven people leadership and functional
    management competencies with hands-on skills in Risk Management and
    internal controls in the functional areas
  • Be computer literate with skills in MS
    Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the Internet applications
  • The successful candidate must have a
    high level of integrity and professionalism, Communication, Teamwork and
    Analytical skills.
  • Age: Between 30 and 45 years
