Virus Research Unit on AIDS was established following a request in 1988 from
the Uganda Government to the British Government for collaboration on the
research of HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) infection and AIDS (Acquired
Immunodeficiency. The Unit is a center of excellence in HIV/AIDS related
research. It conducts large-scale epidemiological and intervention studies,
clinical trials, virological and immunological research and behavioural
studies, and has generated a wealth of research results that have been used to
inform policy and practice that have led to a large number of scientific
publications in peer reviewed journals over time.

- Handles samples and performs analyses according to the approved
Standard Operating Procedures - Maintain quality results by running standards and controls,
verifying equipment function through routine equipment maintenance and
troubleshooting, monitoring quality control
measures and protocols - Identifies and communicates abnormal patient results by alerting
supervisory personnel, clinician or other appropriate personnel. - Identifies and records non-conformances on Corrective Action
Requests - Identifies and records potential non-conformances
- Corrects potential and non-conformances
- Writes technical Standard Operating Procedures
- To train, supervise and encourage the technical development of

UVRI) Laboratory Technologist job placement must hold a Bachelor’s degree
in a relevant Laboratory Biomedical Sciences - Previous experience working within a Clinical Trials laboratory
- Extensive experience working in an automate Biochemistry department
- Should have strong background in Clinical Biochemistry
- Must be in Possession of an up to date AHP registration
- Having GCLP Laboratory related health and safety trainings is an
added advantage - Able to work independently
- Good computer skills
