Sciences Program is a collaborative Bio-medical research and service delivery
organization. It strives to improve the quality of life of the local population
through a combination of community based research, curative services and
prevention strategies in the District of Rakai, South Western Uganda. It is
based at the Uganda Virus Research Institute – Entebbe and Kalisizo in Rakai
District.

Job Summary: The Laboratory Technologist will be involved
in all Laboratory procedures in the RHSP Laboratory at Kalisizo Station. He/
She will be required to conform to Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCLP)
guidelines. The RHSP laboratory does automated and/or manual assays in the
fields of chemistry, molecular biology, flow cytometry, hematology,
microbiology and serology
in all Laboratory procedures in the RHSP Laboratory at Kalisizo Station. He/
She will be required to conform to Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCLP)
guidelines. The RHSP laboratory does automated and/or manual assays in the
fields of chemistry, molecular biology, flow cytometry, hematology,
microbiology and serology
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform analytical work for both research and clinical management
purposes. - Receipt and processing of samples including long term archival.
- Do preventive and scheduled maintenance of equipment
- Collection of different types of samples including phlebotomy
- Write Standard Operating Procedures
- Manage laboratory logistics
- Perform any other official duty as may be assigned by management
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for must hold a Bachelor degree in biomedical
technology, bachelor’s in medical laboratory sciences or related sciences
laboratory field - At least two years’ experience with PBMC processing as conducting
clinical chemistry, manual and automated hematology will be an added
advantage, - Ability to professionally communicate in writing and verbally or
other means deemed appropriate. - Training in SLMTA, Biosafety and Laboratory Quality Management
System is an added advantage. - Demonstrate skills in professional code of conduct and ethics
