for the ICRC and NGOs in Disaster Relief.
Job Summary:
The Protection Assistant – GBV Case worker will provide day to day management
of prevention activities and other related activities in Kiryandongo refugee
settlement under the supervision of the Protection GBV officer. You will
undertake all SGBV prevention and response related activities that may include
among others; training, awareness raising, forums with opinion leaders and
Focus group discussions etc. you work and liaise closely with GBV Officer, Lead
case workers on documentation of program activities as per the donor
requirements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Ensure 100% of SGBV cases reported access Safety and security on
    case by case basis during the project period.
  • Throughout the project period ensure that SGBV survivors are
    provided temporary shelter when further threats and risks are eminent
  • Provide basic psycho social counselling to survivors on a case by
    case basis throughout the project period
  • Deliver food and material assistance to SGBV survivors on a case by
    case basis throughout the project period
  • Facilitate and document medical referrals and follow up, including
    provision of transport and accommodation where necessary during the
    project period
  • Ensure linking of survivors for IGAs to Livelihood sector to reduce
    their vulnerability. Ensure 100% full Participation of community in SGBV
    prevention and response is enabled and sustained through the project
    period.
  • Conduct SGBV awareness raising and meetings on bi-monthly basis in
    all 06 zones.
  • Hold Bi-monthly meetings with SGBV Taskforce, watch groups, youth
    pyramid and Community Activists to assess progress and feedback on SGBV
    prevention and response.
  • Support bi-monthly meetings with Community Activists (CAs) in the
    course of the project lifespan.
  • Establish, train and support community peer educators
  • Establish, train and support Male Action Groups (MAGs)
  • Establish and support safe spaces for women and adolescent girls and
    boys within the settlements where they can share experiences, build
    support networks and relationships, strengthen their confidence and build
    their skills in income generating activities to empower them to have
    access and control of resources and reduce their vulnerability to GBV.
  • Train SASA! Community Activists (CAs) in Kiryandongo in the course
    of the project.
  • Ensure that advocacy is conducted for full participation of
    community in SGBV prevention and response during the project period.
  • Facilitate community structures to participate in SGBV advocacy
    activities both locally and at district level.
  • Actively engage in the commemoration of 16 days of activism and
    other international days on GBV as stipulated.
Communication/Reporting
  • Proactively contribute to quality and timely drafting of weekly,
    monthly reports
  • Share daily updates on GBV incidents and risks in his/her area if
    assignment to the child protection assistant.
Planning: Proactively contribute to activity,
spending and movement planning
Finance:
  • Assure that funds allocated to activities are used adequately
  • Assure that funds are used in accordance with all DRC / DDG finance
    procedures.
Additional tasks
  • On request perform any other additional duties assigned by the
    supervisors in order to allow the organization to function optimally.
  • Adhere to DRC’s code of conduct

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate for the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) Protection
    Assistant – GBV Case worker job opportunity should hold a University
    degree in social sciences, guidance and counselling or relevant fields
  • At least two (2) years’ experience working with vulnerable
    communities, basic needs and protection programming experience, and/or
    advocacy programs.
  • Professional training in Gender based violence.
  • Experience in protection interventions in line with Refugees
    operation with wide Knowledge in SASA methodology.
  • Experience of working with UN or NonGovernmental
    organizations.
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken) is essential.
  • Good communication skills and ability to conduct training and
    awareness
  • Computer skills.
  • Good self-organization and basic management skills.
  • Familiarity with Monitoring & Evaluation for UN-funded projects
    desired.
  • Fluent English. Knowledge of the local languages spoken in the
    operation area is an asset.
