in 1960, the mission of Terre des hommes (Tdh) has been to come to the aid of
children in need. It endeavours at all times to defend the rights of children,
in times of war and natural disasters, or in less publicised situations of
distress.  Today, the Terre des hommes Foundation is a significant force
among children’s aid organisations in Switzerland and throughout the world. It is
the largest non-governmental organisation (NGO) for children’s aid in
Switzerland. Tdh has development projects and emergency relief programmes in
more than 30 countries. This engagement is financed by individual and
institutional donations, of which 87% flows directly into the Tdh programmes.
Job Summary:  The driver is responsible for the safe
transportation of personnel, items and visitors. With this the Driver is a
representative of the organisation and a service-oriented and customer-focused
attitude is expected. To assist the Terre des Hommes office in logistics and
car maintenance to ensure effective and efficient service delivery. The Driver
works under the Uganda Country Office. The position is based in Kampala, Uganda
and receives hierarchical leadership from the Finance and Admin Officer to whom
he/she reports based in.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
Office
Transportation
  • To ensure safe and timely transportation or pick up of the office
    staff and office visitors and items as instructed.
  • To ensure adherence to all national driving laws in the respective
    country and adherence to the office Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)
    and internal guidelines.
Office vehicle
maintenance & administration
  • Maintain the good condition of the office vehicle.
  • To ensure good and timely maintenance of the vehicles such as
    technical maintenance and cleanness and advise the office timely on the
    routine maintenance or other maintenance of the vehicles;
  • To maintain the office vehicle legal documents availability such as
    driver license, vehicle number, vehicle tax, vehicle insurance, and any
    other vehicle legal documents.
  • Ensure the completeness and accuracy of office vehicle
    administration/journey miles/logbooks
  • Prepare monthly fuel consumption reports and report to the Finance
    and admin Officer.
  • If applicable: To ensure legal papers at border crossings.
Logistics
(Procurement and People logistics)
  • To ensure adherence to the Terre des Hommes Netherlands procurement
    rules and regulations in regards to purchases and logistics, obtain
    quotations of good suppliers, purchase items and services from good
    suppliers as per procurement regulations and assist the Finance and admin
    officer in any other logistical or messages jobs related to the office
    operations;
  • To assist in ensuring that all logistical bookings for Terre des
    Hommes Netherlands office staff or other officials travelling for the
    office, other than logistics per office car, travel documents are
    organized in a timely manner and assist in all travel and transport of people
    as instructed and as per SOP’s and travel regulations;
Safety &
security
  • To be a member of the regional security team and to ensure, with the
    Finance and Admin officer a safe working environment for all the office
    staff travelling by checking safety information before travelling.
  • To engage in sorting out calamities with the Finance and admin
    officer and the Country Manager or any other appointed decision maker, of
    staff in various difficult situations, related to work, and act based upon
    them as per the Security Manual and Standard Operating Procedures
Other common
activities
  • To assist the Finance and Admin officer in handling the office
    administration works such as attainability and reception, filing of
    documents, copying and scanning of documents, faxing of documents, data
    entry, office errands, collecting mails from the post and register
    incoming – outgoing mail.
  • Performing ad hoc work to support other departments, such as
    assisting in taking pictures during field trips, support events,
    workshops, support general office running and programmes where needed.

  • Safe, comfortable and timely transportation of passengers of the
    Terre des Hommes
  • Good condition and legally secured office vehicle with correct
    administration
  • Efficient, effective and quality procurement done for the Terre des
    Hommes Netherlands office and appropriate and efficient as well as timely
    logistics arranged for all officials travelling under the Terre des Hommes
    Netherlands office.
  • A safe and secure working environment and informed staff members in
    relation to security and calamities.
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of the organisation activities.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant must hold a Valid and relevant driving license.
  • Valid police report/Certificate of good conduct.
  • Intermediate Vocational Education work and thinking level.
  • Five years of experience in driving as a professional driver.
  • Verbal and written capability in English and local languages
  • Knowledge of security and first aid training.
  • Knowledge of security situation in the respective areas of Terre des
    Hommes Netherlands operation.
  • Knowledge of the traffic rules and regulations in the various
    countries and experience in border crossing with a vehicle.
  • Knowledge of and experience in logistics and procurement.
  • Knowledge of the organisation’s services.
  • Availability outside office hours and weekends if necessary.
