Tooro, Kigezi and Ankole, Uganda
Disabled Persons of Uganda (NUDIPU) and Makerere University, Department of
Social Work and Social Administration are conducting a research on “Living
Conditions of Persons with Disabilities in Uganda”. Overall, the project is
coordinated by SINTEF, a Norwegian agency with funding from Atlas
Alliance/NORAD and the work will be done in accordance with the SINTEF project
documents.

Participate
in a training on the study protocol, data collection and ethical procedures
Participate
in pilot study
Travel
to selected study enumeration areas for the entire study data collection
duration
Identify
potential households , assess eligibility and recruit household members
Conduct
informed consent processes with potential participants according to the study
procedures
Develop
interview schedules; arrange and conduct interviews in accordance with
pre-determined interview guidelines, data collection procedures, tools and
documentation standards
As
appropriate to the specified position, code and verify data in accordance with
the study data management standard operating procedures (SOPs), and enter data
into the data collection electronic tools
Ensure
that data collected are accurate, complete, properly handled and stored in
accordance with study SOPs and confidentiality stipulations
After
data collection, a RA should write a brief report on the field exercise where
he/she was deployed and submit to the immediate supervisor
Take responsibility
of all the research tools and equipment entrusted to him/her during the data
collection
Performs
miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
The Research
Assistant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
Prior
experience in research methods
Previous
experience in data collection
Knowledge
of disability issues is an added advantage
Skills
in identifying and recruiting research subjects
Interviewing
and electronic data collection skills
Ability
to understand and apply specified field research procedures and protocols
Ability
to work in a team (good team player) and independently
Excellent
communication skills
Able to
work long hours
Ability to
work in any part of the country
