Job Summary:  The HIV/AIDS Specialist (Adolescent Health)
reports to the HIV/AIDS Manager for guidance and general supervision. The
Specialist supports the development and preparation of the 2nd decade HIV
programmes/projects and is responsible for managing, implementing, monitoring,
evaluating and reporting of progress 2nd decade HIV programmes/projects (and
coordinating in an integrated manner UNICEF efforts at addressing all health
and social and behavioral risks and structural factors that increase
predisposition to HIV acquisition by adolescent girls and young mothers). The Specialist
provides technical guidance and management support throughout the programming
processes to facilitate the administration and achievement of concrete and
sustainable results according to plans, allocation, results based-management
approaches and methodology (RBM) and UNICEF’s Strategic Plans, standards of
performance and accountability framework.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Support to programmes/projects development and planning
  • Programme management, monitoring and delivery of results
  • Technical and operational support to programme implementation
  • Networking and partnership building
  • Innovation, knowledge management and capacity building

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the United Nations UNICEF HIV/AIDS
    Specialist (Adolescent Health) job opportunity should hold an advanced
    University Degree in public health, pediatric health, family health,
    health research, global/international health, health policy and/or
    management, environmental health sciences, biostatistics, socio-medical,
    health education, epidemiology or other health related sciences.
  • At least five years of professional experience in public HIV/AIDS
    planning and management and/or in relevant areas of health care, health
    emergency/humanitarian preparedness, at the national level Relevant
    experience in 2nd decade HIV and Adolescent Health programme/project
    development and management in any UN system agency or organization is an
    asset.
  • Oral and written proficiency in English is required.  Knowledge of another official UN
    language or a local language is an asset
