Diseases Institute (IDI) is an international non-profit organization which is a
partnership of infectious diseases and public health specialists. The overall
objective of the IDI is to strengthen health systems with strong emphasis on
Infectious Diseases, through Research and Capacity Development. IDI has five
operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission: Prevention,
Care and Treatment; Training, Research and Laboratory services (provided
through a partnership with the Makerere University – John Hopkins University
Core Lab) and Outreach.
the above mission, the Global Health Security Project under IDI has received
funding from the UK Department of Health and Social Care through the Mott
MacDonald, a management agent to implement the multi-national Fleming Fund
Country Grant. This grant is to address critical gaps in the surveillance of
antibiotic resistant bacteria in Uganda through investing in laboratory
infrastructure enhancement, human resource strengthening and workforce reforms,
surveillance systems strengthening, building foundations for Antimicrobial
Resistance (AMR) and Antimicrobial Utilization/Consumption (AMU/C) surveillance
data use and promoting rational use of antimicrobial medicines. The major aim
of the project is to improve AMR and AMU/C surveillance data to inform policy
and practice at national and international levels. The overall goal is to avert
the human and economic burden of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). In order to
fully support the implementation of the project, Global Health Security
Program-IDI seeks to recruit for the following positions as follows:
Project Officer AMU/C Surveillance will be responsible for
providing technical support in the design, implementation of the antimicrobial
utilization and consumption in the health sector. She/he will lead the
development and review of the relevant protocols, alignment of the existing
national and international to the projects need and work closely with the
implementation partners and government institutions.
- Support the Antimicrobial Utilization/Consumption (AMU/C) TwGs in
development of stepwise implementation of AMU/C surveillance in the human
health sector. - Support in the constitution, establishment and/or strengthening of
the national level structures to support AMU/C surveillance. - In collaboration with key stakeholders (technical working groups,
surveillance sites, consortium members, collaborators and consultants)
review/ develop AMU/C surveillance standards and protocols in the human
health. - Collaborate with the data and M&E in the development of
improved/updated tools, and databases for human health AMU/C surveillance. - Support analysis of AMU/C surveillance data and write technical
reports according to agreed reporting formats and timelines. - In collaboration with key stakeholders (technical working groups,
surveillance sites, consortium
members, collaborators and consultants) support the interpretation of
AMU/C data in line with national and international guidelines (WHO, OIE
and GLASS) - Support/ provide technical assistance in the operationalization od
protocols, SOPs and guidelines for AMU/C surveillance in the human health
sector - In collaboration with partners, support facilities and NDA in AMU/C
surveillance including Point Prevalence Surveys - In collaboration with the partners, provide assistance with setting
up AMU/C surveillance activities in the animal health sector using some of
the lessons learnt from the human health sector - Any other duties assigned by the supervisor from time to time.
- The applicant for the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) Project
Officer AMU/C Surveillance job must hold a Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy
or its equivalent - Additional training in public health is added advantage
- At least two years of experience in the development of surveillance
protocols, pre-testing them on the surveillance sites and data collection. - Knowledge on the Global Health Security Agenda, national,
international guidelines and recommendations on AMU/C - Must have excellent writing, presentation and communication skills.
- Experience in using analysis software and reporting/ presentation of
data for both scientific and programme reports. - Strong computer skills in at least word, power point, spreadsheets,
and database programmes.
