Job Summary:   The
Communications Coordinator will coordinate, support and maintain internal and
external communications with project collaborators, implementing agencies,
service providers and assist to execute the communications strategy, maintain
project documentation at the Country office
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Secretary of the Country Management Group and Senior Management
    Group
  • Act as Special Assistant to the Country Director by, inter alia,
    documenting discussions with partners, 
    preparing briefing notes, speaking pints, and other materials to
    facilitate CDs functions
  • Assist the Country Director in advancing the NRC Uganda
    communication strategy
  • Provide input on communication and documentation initiatives,
    including by drafting press releases, statements for the CD, etc.
  • Support both the internal and external mandatory reporting processes
    including the T1, T2, T3 reviews
  • Support Implementation of donor and country specific visibility
    initiatives. 
  • In collaboration with the HoP , the PDMs, and the Grants
    Coordinator, conduct research and document success stories to be shared on
    social media.
  • Strengthening the communications capacity of the team.
  • Coordinate with the communication focal points of NRC and external
    partners, as necessary.
  • Acting as a contact point for the CMG/SMG correspondences, including
    minute taking and follow up on action points.
  • Support and maintain internal and external communications with
    project collaborators, implementing agencies, service providers and assist
    to execute the communications strategy, maintain project documentation
  • Assist to ensure compliance of activities with project communication
    strategy by following donor and NRC guidelines
  • Develop key promotional/visibility materials/ messages in
    consultation with the Country Director, Head of Program,  project team
  • Assist in coordinating communication activities and events of the
    project and partners
  • Assist in conducting awareness raising campaigns, events,
    information dissemination workshops, etc. for target groups
  • Participate in donor visits for showcasing project progress and
    achievements
  • Support the M&E team in in dissemination of communication
    materials to relevant stakeholders
  • Support the Program Development Unit to draft proposals, draft case
    studies and relevant project documents and suggest recommendations on
    varied issues (as and when required)
  • Maintain documentation management system Office365 (hard copy and on
    network)

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The applicant for the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) Communications
    Coordinator job opportunity should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Social
    Science/related field.  A masters in
    a relevant field will be an added advantaged
  • Previous experience with displaced persons, or refugees in a
    humanitarian/recovery context
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Knowledge of the Ugandan refugee context
  • Ability to work in a team and to tight deadlines in a dynamic,
    diverse and fast-paced work environment.
  • Critical thinking skills & vibrant, outgoing character
  • Excellent English writing skills including proven experience in
    drafting compelling communications content, Self-supporting in IT;
    Knowledge of humanitarian affairs; Demonstrated understanding and use of
    social media for communications and advocacy purposes; Detail-oriented,
    able to multi-task, a team worker.
  • Ability to communicate with people outside the organization,
    representing the organization to the public, government, and other
    external sources. This information can be exchanged in person, in writing,
    or by telephone or e-mail.
  • Experience of working with local NGOs, INGOs and government bodies
    would be an advantage
