Job Summary:    The Child Protection Coordinator actively
contributes to implementation of Children and Young People Safeguarding policy,
facilitating training, maintaining records and preparing documentation and
correspondence and performing other technical, budgetary, and administrative
tasks pertaining to the child protection program sector at Plan International
assigned from time to time.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Lead implementation of Children and Young People Safeguarding
    policy.
  • Manage the project budget that supports implementation of Children
    and Young People Safeguarding policy, while ensuring value for money and
    effective budget monitoring.
  • Train plan staff, partners and children to understand, implement and
    comply with Children and Young People Safeguarding policy.
  • Build capacities of Child Protection structures and coordinate their
    functions to implement Children and Young People Safeguarding policy and
    other child protection programs generally.
  • Support engagement with the Government of Uganda, relevant Technical
    Working Groups and other partners on issues of Child Protection and
    Safeguarding.
  • Coordinate annual Children and Young People Safeguarding policy
    self-assessment and reporting.
  • Tracking and updating risk register and Maqique Live system
  • Facilitate administrative and logistical functions to child
    protection program department
  • Carry out other child protection program duties at country office
    assigned from time to time.
  • Prepare and Submit monthly work plans, progress reports against work
    plan to national program manager
  • Coordinate with program area offices and child protection
    coordinators all actions for implementing children and young people
    safeguarding policy
  • Develop gender sensitive tools that will support implementation of
    Children and Young People Safeguarding policy.
  • Facilitate development of child protection risks matrix and
    mitigation measures for all projects and activities implemented by Plan
    International
  • Map out and strengthen Child Protection structures and coordinate
    their functions to ensure timely identification, reporting and responding
    to child protection risks at community, district at national level.
  • Facilitate integration and mainstreaming of child protection risk
    mitigation in all activities implemented by Plan and partners
  • Conduct quarterly meetings with Child Protection focal point persons
    to assess and review progress towards achieving 100% compliance with
    Children and Young People Safeguarding policy.
  • Document and share best practices in implementing children and young
    people safeguarding policy
  • Implement any other child protection program activities assigned
    from time to time as a member of the child protection team.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The applicant for the Plan International Child Protection
    Coordinator job opportunity must hold a Bachelor’s degree in social
    sciences, law, human rights, and education or development studies, master
    degree in any of the above areas is an added advantage.
  • Two years of experience working in humanitarian development,
    including in emergencies.
  • Experience training and building the capacity of a range of actors
    on child protection and safeguarding policy
  • Strong understanding of Child Protection principles and practice,
    and experience working on Child Protection programs
  • Extensive experience in designing and implementing communication
    strategies focused on behaviour change, as well as supporting
    communication tools/materials, in Uganda.
  • Demonstrable recent experience in policy and advocacy at national
    and community levels, specifically in the areas child protection and
    gender policy.
  • Experience in working with national level stakeholders (government
    and development organisations), local partners , children, school
    teachers, parents and community members on child protection policies

  • Excellent report writing and communication skills.
  • Strong verbal communication skills, including networking,
    negotiating ability and influencing others.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with people
    from diverse cultures, ability to lead and motivate people to work in
    teams
  • Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation within child protection.
  • Working with and working through partners.
  • Experience in CSOs capacity building and in strengthening various
    duty bearers understanding of and response to child protection. Good
    facilitations skills.
  • Programming on Children’s Rights.
  • Skilled in the use of computer software.
  • Proven skills and experience in proposal development and report
    writing
  • Computer literate (Microsoft office)
