Job Summary: The Livestock Resource Centre Manager / Animal
Husbandry Officer will support UMPCU farmers within their cooperative societies
in understanding and implementing best practices for beef production by
ensuring a continuous linkage between the cooperative societies and Livestock
Resource Centers/feedlots and developing effective approaches for continuous
participation and growth in order to achieve the desired project objectives.

in understanding and implementing best practices for beef production by
ensuring a continuous linkage between the cooperative societies and Livestock
Resource Centers/feedlots and developing effective approaches for continuous
participation and growth in order to achieve the desired project objectives.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Mobilise farmers to participate in cooperative activities
- Constantly update the LRC membership database
- Monitor and Control occurrence and spread of animal diseases.
- Treat sick animals belonging to UMPCU members within the different cooperative societies
- Advise UMPCU members on handling and management of animals
- Train UMPCU members on better animal production practices.
- Ensure that the Livestock Resource Centre/Feedlot and quarantine
procedures are followed - Undertake routine inspection of the animals in feedlot and
quarantine - Livestock markets and holding grounds inspected
- Advise on the animal feeding regime for animals at the feedlots.
- Guide farmers on pasture management, farm structure establishment
and farm management - Collect samples for laboratory analysis
- Support the laboratory technician in diagnostic result reporting
- Manage efficient expenditure of allocated funds
- Ensure security of all assets including land, livestock produce and
inventories - Efficient and productive personnel management and assessment of
staff - Supervise the Animal Husbandry Assistant
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a degree in veterinary medicine.
- Good understanding of animal nutrition and feeding is a MUST.
- Good knowledge of animal health and diagnostics
- Registration with Uganda Veterinary Board
- Three years of professional working experience with livestock
especially cattle. - Good understanding and knowledge of working with farmer groups
- Ability to prioritize work, multi-task and meet deadlines
- Sound analytical judgment;
- Ability to work with results-orientation and efficiency in a
multi-tasking environment; - Strong planning skills;
- Flexibility, responsibility, integrity, team work, self-motivated,
preparedness to work offtime; - Good computer skills in common word processing (MS Word),
spreadsheet (MS Excel), and accounting software - Ability to perform effectively under high pressure, hardship
conditions and long working hours.
