Since 1974,
International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) has focused on increasing
and sustaining food security and agricultural productivity in over 100 developing
countries through the development and transfer of effective and environmentally
sound crop nutrient technology and agribusiness expertise. IFDC enables
smallholder farmers in developing countries to increase agricultural
productivity, generate economic growth and practice environmental stewardship
by enhancing their ability to manage mineral and organic fertilizers
responsibly and participate profitability in input and output markets.
Job Summary:   The Driver will support IFDC operations
through vehicle transport through the most efficient and economical way
feasible.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Drive staff to and from different places as instructed by their
    supervisor.
  • Load, transport and offload program commodities/supplies to and from
    designated places as and when instructed by their supervisor
  • Deliver and collect mails as instructed
  • Ensure safety of self and passengers at all times while on the road
  • Drive program vehicles responsibly in accordance with all the
    pre-set traffic laws and regulations
  • Ensure timely communication of all issues related to the program
    vehicle to effect staff logistics
  • Ensure proper documentation of all movements and maintain all
    relevant documentation at all times including log book, road license,
    insurance, parking licenses as well adherence to polices related to
    vehicle usage.
  • Ensure sound mechanical condition and efficient use of the vehicle
    which include: carry out small service of vehicles at the office, follow
    parts service and replacement regulations, advice on purchase and
    replacements of parts, operate vehicles in a safe and prudent manner.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the program vehicle.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by their supervisor.
Key Outputs:
  • Staff are driven to the designated places safely and on time
  • All traffic and safety regulations are adhered to
  • All vehicles are well maintained
  • All reports on the vehicles mechanical condition are submitted on a
    timely basis
  • All project vehicles are cleaned on a regular basis
  • Program commodities are delivered safely and on time to the
    designated place of delivery

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate must hold a Uganda Certificate of Education
    (UCE) or its equivalent.
  • Holder of a professional drivers’ license
  • At least three to five years’ experience as a driver for an
    international organization
  • Ability to drive long distances and in some cases in rough roads
  • Knowledge of delivering mail and correspondence and
    submitting/collecting documents to and from public and private
    institutions
  • Previous experience in collating vehicle usage reports
  • Previous experience coordinating vehicle maintenance, with
    contracted service providers.
  • Ability to communicate in English is essential.
