in African Schools (PEAS UK) is a UK-based charity with a mission ‘to unlock
the potential of Africa by expanding access to affordable quality secondary
education.’ We run the fastest growing network of sustainably financed
secondary schools in Africa. We currently have a network of 31 schools across
Uganda and Zambia, educating around 16,000 students. PEAS is supported by
major corporate, government and private funders and our innovative financial model
is pioneering in the field of public private partnerships in development
education.
provide financial oversight management and finance training services to the
PEAS schools network in accordance with PEAS policies and standards. This
includes supporting on internal reporting requirements and
overseeing/coordinating the work of the finance teams in PEAS schools (School
Director & Bursar) as necessary. The Finance Officer Schools will also
support the capacity development of school leaders for the day to day
management of school finance operations.
- Support the preparation of school budgets and monthly financial
reports. - Oversee implementation of financial policies in schools
- Train Bursars and School leaders in financial management procedures
- Analyse school financial reports to support decision making by PEAS
management - Develop and implement financial models for schools’ sustainability
- Analyse school audit reports and follow up on the implementation of
audit recommendations - Provide controls to ensure school finances are managed in accordance
with PEAS financial policies and procedures - Keenly monitor cash holdings in schools to ensure adequate resources
are available to support implementation of quality education programmes. - Participate in the recruitment and induction of new members to the
schools’ finance team.
- The applicant for the PEAS UK Regional Finance Officer (Western) job
must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce (Finance or Accounting),
Bachelor of Business Administration (Accounting/Finance) - Part professional qualifications such as ACCA, CPA
- A minimum of three years of
experience in general accounting and finance management - Good understanding of accounting and financial standards
- Experience using computerized accounting packages especially Quick
Books - Good knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office Applications
- Experience in the training and mentoring of finance staff
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
- Proven ability to coach and mentor others
- Good financial report writing skills
- Excellent numeracy skills
- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
- Good team player
