its valued client in the Microfinance Industry.
Job Summary:   The Chief Financial Officer will work closely
with the CEO and the senior management team in developing the Microfinance’s
strategic plan. The CFO will act as the primary liaison to the board of
directors’ finance committee, working closely with the committee to strengthen
the Microfinance financial position and other items as required. S/he will
continually evaluate best industry practices in comparison to internal systems
and needed resources, with an eye toward both future needs and budget realities
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Design, implement and monitor internal and financial controls to
    maintain a strong environment of internal control and risk management.
  • Coordinate the statutory audit process and maintain relationship
    with auditors and tax consultants.
  • Ensure that BoU compliance and reporting obligations are met and
    accurate returns submitted on timely basis. URA tax obligations met – VAT,
    WHT, payroll taxes and corporation tax.
  • Closely manage and reconcile the General Ledger Balance
  • Closely monitor the Exception reports to track anomalies
  • Oversee the tax planning and management process to optimize costs
  • Maintain the Balance sheet and capital adequacy ratios within target
    and regulation.
  • Design and implement an effective ALCO policy with the requisite
    ALCO Committee function to better manage liquidity risk with clear
    forecasts, trends and stress test scenarios that gives management
    assurance of the financial health
  • Oversee the budgeting and year plan process.
  • Perform Revenue assurance to minimize revenue leakage and identify
    any anomalies on a timely basis.
  • Closely monitor Opex and Capex to maintain budgetary control, and
    seek ways of reducing costs.
  • Ensure timely and effective response to growing demands from board
    management and other departments for enhanced analysis and reporting;
    inRegular liaison with business, marketing, sales and strategy on trend
    analysis for input into continuous planning and forecasting process,
    System benefits realization to ensure maximum utilization of MIS to inform
    decision making including board reports
  • Regular liaison with business, marketing, sales and strategy on trend
    analysis for input into continuous planning and forecasting process,

  • Carry out Investment analysis and monitoring: Support business
    development and Projects teams with accurate investment analysis to
    improve the quality of decision making. Active forecast model to enhance
    decision making.
  • Have the overall responsibility for recruitment, retention,
    performance and staff development of the finance team
  • Work scheduling, organization and planning; Leave management

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant must hold a Postgraduate degree
  • CPA, ACCA or other internationally reknown Accounting qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Finance, Accounting
  • Seven years of overall relevant work experience, a minimum 4 of
    which should have been a senior management position in a retail bank or MF
    organization handling a large portfolio
  • Experience in complex accounting and finance system, including
    reporting, budgeting, audit and compliance
  • Experience with managing teams of culturally diverse employees,
    capacity building and training finance staff
  • Advanced knowledge of standard banking compliance regulations,
    banking law, business law, employment and labour law, internal operational
    policies and procedures, and banking products and services.
  • Proven track record in maintaining close contact with senior
    Government officials, law enforcing organizations and financial
    institutions in Uganda.
  • Excellent cross cultural people management skills.
  • Familiar with financial product development and effective financial
    product management skills.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with the ability
    to communicate clearly and persuasively, interpret documents, understand
    procedures, write reports and correspondence, and speak clearly to third parties
    and employees.
  • Ideally domiciled in Uganda.
  • Strong leadership and team building skill with proven experience in
    developing and maintaining a strong senior management team
  • Willing to travel both within and outside the country
