Awamo is the digital, mobile banking platform and credit bureau especially
designed for MFIs. The biometric technology involved solves the problem of
having too little security by protecting clients data and reducing fraud.
Job Summary:  The Accountant will be tasked with managing
awamo’s bookkeeping, preparation of various financials reports, supporting
awamo’s audit process, as well as supporting awamo’s IT and product teams in
regards to accounting related features in awamo’s core banking system.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • In charge of monitoring of operational budgets
  • Responsible to monitor and authorize financial transactions of the
    operational budget as per established procedures
  • Maintaining up-to-date accounts
  • Handling customs matters
  • Responsible for compliance with regards to all financial matters
  • Tasked with compiling and submission of timely and complete monthly,
    quarterly, annual financial reports
  • Coordination with our tax advisors in Uganda and abroad
  • Working collaboratively with our Ugandan branches on all finance
    related issues
  • Coordinating the audit progress with our German team
  • Providing input for the annual budgeting process
  • Support product & IT team to improve accounting related features
    in awamo’s core banking system – awamo® 360
  • Testing accounting related product functionality

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The ideal candidate should preferably hold a Bachelor’s Degree in
    accounting or business-related fields
  • Hands-on experience in financial administration, planning,
    budgeting, controlling, documentation, and reporting
  • Practical knowledge and competence in using accounting software such
    as QuickBooks and Xero
  • Proven experience with transfer pricing is a plus
  • Proven experience with SACCO-/MFI-accounting is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written)
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
