Sanitation and Hygiene Officer
Council (DRC) is a private, independent, humanitarian organization working on
all aspects of the refugee cause in more than 36 countries throughout the
world. The aim of DRC is to protect refugees and internally displaced persons
(IDPs) against persecution and to promote durable solutions to the problems of
forced migration, on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights. DRC
works in accordance with the UN Conventions on Refugees and the Code of Conduct
for the ICRC and NGOs in Disaster Relief.
will be responsible for the day-to-day running promotion of Hygiene and
Sanitation in Kyaka II Refugee settlement.
- Tasked with the identification of Beneficiary for PSN Latrine
Construction in Kyaka II - Ensure hygiene and sanitation standards are met in accordance to
Sphere, UNHCR and the Uganda National standards. - Prepare WASH daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual reports and
timely submission to relevant authorities - Work closely with Community Based Hygiene Promoters and local
leaders to ensure proper dissemination of information on water issues to
beneficiaries for improvement, create linkages between the communities and
the project, the local government extension staff and the target
communities in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, promotion.
Representation:
- Represent DRC at WASH Hygiene and sanitation exercises in the field.
- Ensure integration of WASH activities with other DRC sectors.
- Coordinate with WASH counterparts in Rhino camp in the
implementation of common funded projects. - Ensure good representation and reputation of WASH Sector at all
levels. - Actively participate in internal and external coordination meetings.
Development:
- Work closely with the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Officer,
initiate development of project concepts and proposal documents in respect
to hygiene and sanitation - Develop the project’s M&E tools for monitoring hygiene promoters
at community level.
Implementation and Reporting:
- Ensure hygiene and sanitation standards are met in accordance to
Sphere, UNHCR and the Uganda National standards. - Prepare WASH daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual reports and
timely submission to relevant authorities. - Execute other duties as signed by the supervisor,
- Work closely with Community Based Hygiene Promoters and local
leaders to ensure proper dissemination of information on water issues to
beneficiaries for improvement. - Uphold DRC’s code of conduct and principles of accountability.
- Develop and agree on own performance objectives, targets and ensure
appraisals are conducted on the set targets as required. - Conduct daily field visits to support other field staff on
implementation of WASH.
- Support the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Officers to monitor
financial commitments and expenditures against budgets and provide timely
feedback on budget follow ups on a daily/weekly/ annual basis especially
on hygiene and sanitation. - Initiate procurements and make follow up with the line supervisor to
ensure their execution. - Actively contribute to grants management of all WASH projects
through management of day to day project expenditures.
- The ideal candidate for the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) Water,
Sanitation and Hygiene Assistant job placement should hold a Diploma in
Public Health, Bachelor’s degree is an added advantage. - A minimum of two years of practical experience in developing
countries in appropriate community health programmes in different
contexts. Some of this time should have been in emergency relief
programmes. - Sensitivity to the needs and priorities of disaster-affected
populations. - Ability to work well under pressure and in response to changing
needs. - Familiarity with the SPHERE Standards.
- Have Leadership and supervisory skills and ability to foster team
spirit. - Strong organizational skills and able to coordinate and manage a
diverse array of activities and stakeholders - Strong facilitation, negotiation and mediation skills and ability to
work independently. - Good report writing skills and computer skills in word processing
and spreadsheets. - Good understanding of WASH approaches such CLTS, PHAST, Umoja and
Child to Child etc - Good interpersonal and good Command of Kiswahili and English.
