Rural
Electrification Agency (REA) is the secretariat of the Rural Electrification
Board (REB) established by statutory instrument 2001 No. 75. REA is mandated to
implement Government’s rural electrification programs. The Government of Uganda
through REA is implementing a number of electricity connection projects with financial
support from development partners to meet national electricity access targets.

Job Summary: The Senior Maintenance Engineer will mainly ensure maximum technical support
and efficiency within the Service Territories.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support service providers in the implementation of scheduled/routine
network maintenance activities. - Model analyze network performance for better network system
operations. - Ensure network availability and reliability at all times.
- Provide specialist metering and protection support to Service
providers. - Collect, analyze, and manage/maintain a data base on energy
consumption by the Sen/Ice Providers. - Provide projections for load growth in the service territories.
- Represent REA in meetings convened by key stakeholders and prepare
briefs to management. - Carry out scheduled quality inspections on major equipment
(protection/switchgear equipment, metering equipment, transformers, etc) - Respond to equipment failure that is bought to the attention of the
Agency. - Any other duties as may be reasonably assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the Senior Maintenance Engineer job must hold a good
degree in Electrical Engineering with a bias in power systems. - Working knowledge in the operation and maintenance of electrical
distribution equipment. - Seven years working experience in Uganda’s the Energy Sector five of
which should be in operation and maintenance utility operations. - Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Self-motivated
- Able to make quick upcountry travels
- Understanding of engineering drawings and principles.
- Ability to work quickly and under pressure.
- Good problem solving skills.
- Awareness of health and safety legislation
