Job Summary:  The Products Manager – Assets will:
  • To actively assist the product manager in the day today product
    management, development and sales.
  • To undertake to day today running of operational activities involved
    in product management like fees collection, product system parametization
    etc.
  • To manage the local Barclays Product range for Retail customers,
    ensuring the business remains competitive while achieving its stated
    income targets
  • Understand Barclays competitive position for each product category
    (e.g. Assets; Liabilities) and sector of the market to make
    recommendations in respect of local pricing and local market potential
  • Act as the principal point of contact on product issues for local
    sales and marketing teams
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
Business Direction:
40%
  • Manage the strategic planning and direction of how RBB asset
    portfolio is to grow in the short term and medium term.
  • Develop a strategic plan on how the RBB asset portfolio will grow in
    line with customer needs and regulatory frameworks
  • Manage and facilitate stakeholder management of the various support
    functions feeding into the product life cycle process.
  • Provide focus to the sales team to achieve quality acquisitions of
    new customers  
  • Coordinate responses to the regulator, audit and compliance
    functions regarding the governing of the product life cycle  
  • Develop strategic partnerships with alliances that enhance the overall
    asset offering for RBB
Business
Management: 40%
  • Manage the product life cycle right from development, approval,
    launch, sales, profitability, risk review and shelving
  • Generate and manage new product or product amendment ideas at the
    concept development stage
  • Log product ideas for the product line utilising relevant research
    (e.g. input from customer insight and country product managers).  Review ideas and make recommendations to
    progress which are prioritised using value-based criteria.
  • Design of new products or product features considering both customer
    requirements and the constraints for new developments
  • Write the aggregate business case for new products using country
    input, risk and infrastructure plan, detailed operational risk assessment,
    and complete the financial model for product
  • Facilitate planning workshops to produce detailed plans for each
    product development work stream and manage infrastructure build, test,
    pilot launch and full launch
  • Obtain New Product Approvals for all new products or significant
    enhancements
  • Handover new product to BAU following process and undertake post
    project review In-depth analysis of the book to ensure we deliver on a
    product and proposition set to ‘exceed’ expectations
  • Configure products to meet financial (Income and value) and
    acquisition targets (STP and MTP)
  • Ensure P&L and Portfolio management in line with financial
    targets and within TCF.
  • Stimulate acquisitions, x-sell and up sell activity via innovative
    campaigns and contests
  • Ensure all product and proposition enhancements comply with
    compliance and regulatory guidelines (both internal and external related)
  • Manage customer relationship deepening and satisfaction through
    proposition value enrichment and timely cross sell program rollouts
  • Lead and conduct market research and competitive scan to understand
    other players product offerings
  • Understand customer segmentation & customer needs and develop
    product offerings to deliver the customer value propositions.
  • Work closely with Distribution, Marketing & Product Managers to
    inform them of the product line strategy, positioning and implementation
    plans.
  • Identify the key lines of cost and income, and the levers we have to
    control costs and income. Set the strategy according to these levers to
    achieve the specified Product Line performance targets
  • Review and feedback into customer satisfaction surveys, responding
    to customer product complaints.
  • Liaise with People Development and Sales Management functions to
    design and deliver appropriate training, and give input into sales
    strategies.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate for the Barclays Bank UK Products Manager –
    Assets job must have comprehensive knowledge of Barclays Africa products
    and systems that support them, and a good understanding of Barclays Group
    products.
  • Communication skills both written and oral
  • Strong analytic and numerical skills for calculation of statistics
    needed in performance tracking
  • Experienced in basics of Project management
  • Computer skills especially excel, word & PowerPoint
  • Good interpersonal and networking skills
  • Good report writing skills
  • A detailed understanding of product offerings in the wider financial
    services industry.
  • A detailed knowledge of Barclays Africa strategy and policies
  • Detailed knowledge of consumer buying behaviour, marketing
    techniques and evolving trends
  • An understanding of customer segmentation theory and practice.
  • A detailed understanding of industry, advisory, regulatory and
    professional bodies
  • A good understanding of legislation related to financial services
    and channel delivery
  • A good knowledge of constructing reports, executive summaries and
    briefs
  • Able to deal professionally, confidently and effectively with staff
    at all levels, internally and externally
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Ability to keep abreast of industry changes in both the business and
    marketing environments
  • Able to work under pressure and adhere to strict and tight deadlines
    on a wide range of tasks
  • Able to keep abreast of developments in the business and financial
    services environment
  • Appreciate changes in technology and delivery channels and their
    impact on the financial services environment
