Operations Officer
Generation Company Ltd was incorporated in March 2001 under the Companies Act,
2012 on the basis of the Public Enterprises Reform and Divestiture Act, Cap 98
and Electricity Act, Cap 145 respectively. UEGCL is wholly owned by the
Government of the Republic of Uganda. UEGCL’s key role is to – carry on the
business of electric power generation and sale within Uganda or for export to
neighbouring countries; build, operate and maintain Electricity Generation
Plants; monitor the operation and maintenance of its Concessioned Assets –
Nalubaale and Kiira Power Stations; provide Technical Support as and when
required by the Government of the Republic of Uganda through the Ministry of
Energy and Mineral Development; organize, support, encourage and maintain
training facilities in technical and related fields, amongst others.
The Manager Production, Planning & Water Resources Management will provide
expertise required to plan and manage water resources for Hydropower
development, production , reservoir and river systems management
- Assess Water resources requirements and sustainability of catchments
where current and planned power stations are / shall be located. - Establish or review Hydrodynamic models (water quality, sediment
transportation, etc.) and include any remedial actions in power plant
maintenance - Periodic review of Hydrological models (e.g. Rainfall to runoff
models) for existing power plants and establishment of such models for
proposed projects - Assess and evaluate impacts of Climate Change in water resources availability and hydropower
- Establish/ Review other Water uses-Energy-Food nexus for existing
and proposed water resources / catchments - Periodic Evaluation of environmental constraints for the operation
of reservoir and energy production

- Conduct hydrological forecasts
- Generate synthetic inflow scenarios using optimization techniques
such as Stochastic Dual Dynamic Programming (SDDP). - Carry out Hydroelectric studies for designing of hydropower plants
(installed capacity determination) - Establish routines to ensure river and reservoir Data, recording,
accuracy, analysis and ensure a robust long term storage of such data is

integrated use of water. - Evaluation of Economic and risks in relation to the all rules and
regulations governing water use for energy production - Development/Establish and install a suitable ICT based decision
support tools to assist Power plant operators and management to manage and
optimize water resources for power production - Advise the power plant operators on strategies to optimally dispatch
power plants for short-term power demands (day-ahead demand, energy
balancing and optimization etc.) with interfaces to real-time dispatch
centre of the system operator / customer; - Work in close conjunction with other key stakeholders, establish an

- Represent the company on both local and international associations
regarding Dam Safety - Establish and lead the Dam safety and Emergency Response Unit for
all UEGCL Dams - Compliance to international standard and national regulations on dam
safety inspections, evaluation and reporting - Ensure all required remedial measures required to maintain the
safety of dams, tunnels, caverns and associated safety hydraulic
structures are part of the maintenance plans for the power stations - Identify opportunities and recommend to management opportunities
associated with improvements in the use of dams in relation to current and
future hydrological patterns. - Perform all other prudent functions required to maintain the safety
of dams

Company Ltd (UEGCL) Manager Production, Planning & Water Resources
Management job placement must hold a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering
with a major in Hydrology, Water Resources or Hydropower. - Engineering registration with ERB is an added advantage
- Seven years of relevant working experience, with 3 years in a senior
position. - Must have extensive appreciation of water resources for hydropower
Operation and other competing uses. - Experience in multi-water reservoir and river system optimization
modelling. - Knowledge of operational hydrology and energy projections based on
historical and future water flows, global weather systems. - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to
work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. - Conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
- Ability to interpret Civil Engineering Drawings
- Proficiency in AutoCAD
- Knowledge of Engineering Standards
- Excellent presentations and communication skills
- Age: Below 40 years
