The National Drug
Authority (NDA) is an autonomous body which was established by the National
Drug Policy and Authority Act Cap 206 , Laws of Uganda (2000 Edition) to
regulate Human and Veterinary Medicines and other healthcare products.
NDA’s mandate is to ensure quality, safety and efficacy of human and veterinary
medicines and other healthcare products through the regulation and control of
their production, importation, distribution and use.

Job Summary: The Laboratory Technician (Maintenance
Equipment) will mainly ensure all laboratory equipment is maintained in good
working condition for use in the quality control testing of samples to be able
to generate accurate and reliable results.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- The job holder will be responsible for the maintenance of
specialized high-tech equipment such as Condom testing equipment, High
Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLCs), Gas Chromatography (GC),
Spectrophotometers, materials testers, HVAC systems and a variety of other
equipment at the directorate of laboratory services. - Development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the
operation of a wide range of equipment in the department. - Prepare user requirement specifications and initiate requisitions for
the procurement of new equipment / spare parts as required. - Assist with the implementation of engineering changes, installation
and start up of new equipment to ensure efficient operations. - Tasked with the maintenance of inventory of all equipment at the
laboratory and ensuring that equipment logbooks are updated on a daily
basis. - Initiate and design an annual activity plan for periodical
calibration / preventative maintenance of all major equipment for
incorporation in the departmental annual plan. - Carry out daily checks (verifiable by records) to ensure that all
equipment are in excellent working conditions. - Carry out daily and periodic calibration of testing equipment as per
SOPs and promptly record results. - Troubleshoot and carry out appropriate minor repairs of equipment,
where applicable, according to SOP. - Carry out operational/ performance qualification of equipment as
required, in consultation with equipment manufacturers and protocols. - Prepare monthly reports on the condition of all equipment in the
department and advise the Director on the major repairs of equipment that
may require to be carried out by contractors. - Responsible for the retrieval and appropriate storage of obsolete
equipment and update the head of department when such machinery would be
due for disposal according to PPDA guidelines. - Review general and technical correspondences and queries, and advise
on the appropriate response to particular situations.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the National Drug Authority (NDA) Laboratory
Technician (Maintenance Equipment) job must hold a Diploma in either
Electrical, Mechanical or Instrumentation Engineering. - At least two years’ experience in a similar position involving
maintenance of analytical test equipment from a reputable organization. - Must be able to understand and interact with fully automated control
systems and software applications. - Good analytical and reporting skills
- High integrity
- Pays attention to details
- Must be able to work as a team
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
- Good communication skills and fluent in English language.
