Job Summary:    The Head Card Acquiring will take
responsibility for retention of existing and recruitment of new customers (35%
retention / 65% recruitment). Customers may span the whole of Africa and
therefore role holders will need to be flexible to travel as required and be
able to deal with customers remotely. To recruit profitable new business and
then to establish, manage and develop long term, profitable relationships,
ensuring the provision of first class customer service and maximizing business
opportunities to achieve key objectives and goals
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
New Business
Development (45%)
  • Identify target customers
  • Recruit new key customers at a
    profitable level
  • Proactively create and develop business
    relationships with companies
  • Prepare professional individual
    compelling proposals for customers
  • Build close working relationships with
    Barclays Corporate team contacts and other Group/external key business
    influencers to create business opportunities.  Attend relevant events.
  • Fully understand the workings of
    Barclaycard and the pricing and risk strategy.
  • Independently determine, develop and
    implement strategies and tactics to achieve/exceed sales targets, and
    combat competitive threats.
Customer contact
(35%)
  • Customer contact will involve discussions
    and negotiations on commercial, technical, operational marketing, and
    industry issues
  • The role holder is responsible for
    managing and responding to customer requirements
  • Negotiate, at board level, pricing and
    contracts with strategically important customers.  Handled incorrectly could result in
    considerable losses to the Group in revenue and brand reputation.
  • Establish, build and maintain ongoing
    relationships with customers to develop and protect business income
  • Develop a deep understanding of the
    needs and requirements of customers’ businesses
  • Make sound commercial judgments in order
    to retain and fully develop customer base
Planning and
research – 5%
  • Responsible for developing a personal
    sales plan to achieve targeted objectives and goals
  • Highly self-motivated with strong
    personal time management of day to day activities to maximise return on
    resources
  • Keeping fully updated on customer
    activities as reported in the media and via internal Group sources
  • Maintain and understand the business
    environment in which the customer operates
  • Constantly update knowledge on all
    products and services offered by Barclaycard
Effective
Management and Development of Staff: 20%
  • Ensure effective and efficient
    deployment of staff with overall responsibility for motivation, direction,
    control, training and co-ordination of use.
  • Ensure Succession Planning is in place
    and updated to reflect the growth and internal changes that the African
    Centre has and will go through
Governance, Control
and Risk: 20%
  • Ensure 
    compliance  to Bank controls
    , policy , service standards and procedures as laid down by the bank
  • Ensure all mandatory training completed
    to deadline and understood within given timescales.
  • All risk events (incidents) or control
    failures to be escalated, investigated, reported and fixed at root cause
    to prevent reoccurrence
  • Successful independent conformance
    assurance (e.g .RCA, BIA, Regulatory Compliance, PwC)
  • Understand technical/regulatory matters
    affecting the business. Ultimate responsibility for the continuing compliance
    and use of such matters
  • Assimilation of plans both strategic and
    annual covering the  Credit card
    business  with responsibility for
    turning plans into reality
  • Ensure Governance, Compliance, Risk and
    Control are implemented and adhered to meet Group Standards by Centre.
    Staff at all levels to be clear on what is expected of them. Any new
    regulatory or Group requirements are implemented and reviewed throughout
    Barclaycard in a timely fashion.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the Barclays
    Bank Head Card Acquiring job should have several years  of experience within similar roles
  • Excellent numeric skills. Will be
    required to obtain, prepare, assess and assimilate very complex and
    detailed information

  • Essential to be innovative and

  • Experience of working in a

  • Knowledge and Expertise, Experience
    (relating to specialist knowledge and expertise required to undertake the
    role. May include knowledge of the Bank’s products, services and policies)
  • Will require a good understanding of
    Barclaycard products/policies/plans/objectives in order to pro-actively
    embrace systems/procedure changes within the function
  • Will require extensive knowledge of the
    impact of short, medium and long-term plans of the business and the
    effects of them on other functions, in order to implement the plans in the
    most effective and holistic manner.
  • Will be required to have an
    understanding of local, as well as, European statutes that relate to role
    holders function. The most important of these will be Visa and MasterCard
    regulations. Is likely to be personally responsible for compliance within
    function. Other statutes may include; 
    Law relating to employment of People, Health and Safety at work,
    Money Laundering regulations, Data Protection Act, KYC and FSA       
  • Good knowledge of IT and telephony
    systems
  • An understanding of the credit card
    industry
  • A proven successful track record of
    management experience at Junior, Middle and senior Level, with proven
    examples of the successful Management of resources such as budgets, people
    and premises in an operational area.
  • Management experience in a
    multi-cultural environment
  • Experience of remote site management
    within a matrix management model
  • Experience of working in with other
    areas of the business in order to obtain an understanding of Commercial,
    Optimization, Front-end Lending practices and the operational requirements
    of the business.
