operations in West Nile and South western Uganda. We provide Comprehensive
Primary Health Care, Reproductive Health, HIV/AIDS and Nutrition.
Job Summary:  The Grants Accountant will perform these
duties; maintaining grant performance, maintain grant records, schedules,
organizing regular grants meetings, supporting program and finance team in
processing proposals and agreements and other special projects reports.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Maintain an up-to date grants calendar including donor and sub-award
    reporting deadlines, grant opening, reviews and closure.
  • Actively participate in development of high-quality funding
    proposals for specific projects in collaboration with program team in
    accordance with the donor requirements.
  • Work closely with the Program and Finance team to ensure reporting
    timelines are agreed and maintained and reports submitted on time.
  • In close relationship with the Accountants monitor and address
    variances in finance reporting for all grants.
  • Liaise with program team to monitor deviations from the planned
    activities and agreed outputs for all grants and promptly report any
    deviations to mitigate any future risk.
  • Orient staff on MTI and donor policies and procedures to ensure
    adherence to all grants rules, regulations and restriction in use of
    different donor funds.
  • Maintain all hard copies and electronic grant files on behalf of the
    organization.
  • Ensure prior approvals are sought for all specific requirements as
    per donor requirements.
  • Participate on donor and stakeholder meetings and provide
    information about required key deliverables and strategies for
    implementation.
  • Monitors the budget and financial obligations of assigned grant
    awards; assures adherence to line item allowances.
  • Communicates budget recaps and necessary spending limitations to
    management; evaluates fiscal trends and provides analysis to leadership to
    assist with goal planning.
  • Completes and submits financial reports to Senior Manager Finance by
    4th of every month.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant for the Grants Accountant must hold a University
    Degree in, Commerce, Business Administration, Accounting & Finance.
    Master’s degree added advantage. Professional certification in either CPA,
    ACCA, CFA, CIMA preferred.
  • Three years of progressive experience in Grants Management overseeing
    multi donor project funds, project management preferably in health field.
  • Proven experience in Financial Management and Budget Monitoring
    & Proposal development
  • Experience in external/internal audit compliance & risk
    management.
  • Familiar with USAID/UN Grant management Procedures and Donors
    Relations.
  • Experience with INGOs, USAID, UN agencies, or reputable audit firm.
  • Extensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • High degree of analytical skills and ability to maintain accurate
    records
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office & financial management software
    programs
  • Excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills
