valuable client, one of the oldest wooden products companies in the country.
They primarily sell doors, dining sets, kitchenware and wardrobes.
Designer will be tasked with the
production of designs for items of furniture and related products. These
designs may then be mass produced or made in small batches or as one-off
individual pieces. You will either work alone or alongside colleagues to create
concepts and designs that balance innovative design, functional requirements
and aesthetic appeal.
Studying,
researching and planning various styles of furniture design;
The
Fashion Designer will sketch and create prototypes and models for production
using computer-aided design (CAD) programs prior to commencement of the
manufacturing process.
Keeping
informed about design trends and developments;
The
incumbent will be selecting suitable materials, which might include wood and any other incidental materials;
Discussing
designs with clients for custom ordering or with manufacturers;
Finding
ways to improve furniture items already manufactured;
Generating
sample designs using computer-aided design (CAD), card models, sketches or hard
prototypes
Evaluating
issues such as pricing and fixing costs, fashion, purchasing, safety, materials
and manufacturing methods and techniques;
Using
various tools to complete projects from raw materials to finished furniture
items;
Organising
plans and schedules with respect to the availability of resources;
Preparing
detailed final designs;
Interact
and coordinate with design and execution teams to ensure that the works are
being carried out as per the design documents, specifications, etc.
Liaising
with craftsmen or production department staff, such as production managers,
marketing staff and design engineers, about the process of construction or
manufacture;
Attending
workshops, seminars and training on various types of manufacturing and
furniture design.
The
applicant must possess a technical qualification related to furniture design.
Applicants with significant experience will also be considered.
At least
three years of related work experience
Computer
literacy i.e. ability to use CAD software to model furniture designs. Some
desired software include Autocad, Inventor, Solidworks and Photoshop;
Good
ability to understand and interpret project scope from the design.
Extensive
knowledge of the production process and controlling finishing quality of
furniture
High
degree of creativity
Capability
of understanding the needs and constraints of a project, and transform the
brief into a creative concept.
