technical leadership in the design and implementation of Save the Children
International’s work on basic education (including education in emergencies),
teachers’ education, vocational skills, policy advocacy and community/children
mobilisation in the Uganda Country Programme. S/he will work closely with Head
of education to ensure that proposal development, implementation and evaluation
is in line with quality standards for education. S/he will also mentor and/or
capacity build existing country programme staff in support of teaching and
learning. S/he is also responsible for monitoring programme quality, initiating
and taking technical leadership in education-focused studies, documentation and
dissemination of innovations and good practices by working together with other
members of PDQ team. S/he will also support country office strategy development
from a technical perspective. In the event of a major humanitarian emergency,
the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be
able to vary working hours accordingly.
- The applicants for the Save the Children Education Specialist job
placement must hold a Bachelor’s degree (Education/ECCD) from a recognised
institution. A relevant postgraduate qualification will be an added
advantage. and demonstrated experience (three years or more) in the
design, implementation and monitoring of education programmes in an
international development context. - Demonstrated experience (three years or more) in teaching and
teacher professional development in domestic and/or international contexts - Up to date with recent development in Education sector with
well-developed understanding of key issues in basic education and related
issues in Uganda and track record of improving student learning outcomes
through teacher training - Demonstrated skills in needs assessment, monitoring and evaluation,
report writing, and proposal development. - Experience in rights-based programming, including
gender-mainstreaming and inclusive education. - Trainer of trainer’s experience
- Specific experience of designing and implementing NORAD, ECHO and
UNICEF projects and consortia projects.
