Mental Health and Psychosocial
Well-Being Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices Study
Projects Objectives
General objective:
Produce a
comprehensive understanding of the socio-cultural aspects of MHPSS in the
settlements, providing a baseline set of data relevant for programming,
follow-up, monitoring and evaluation through a Knowledge, Attitude and Practice
study to support:
·        
The
programming of MHPSS activities;
·        
The
development of Information and education communication (IEC) tools and
awareness raising campaign;
·        
The
development of community-based activities to improve mental health and
psychosocial well-being.
Specific
objectives:
·        
Define
knowledge gaps, set of cultural beliefs and behavioural patterns that
facilitate understanding or action; or that pose problems or create barriers
towards better mental health and psychological support;
·        
Assess
communication processes and sources that are key to address proper information
on mental health and psychosocial well-being;
·        
Propose
main MHPS KAP issues to be addressed to improve mental health and psychosocial
well-being.
Deliverables and Time
Frame
The assignment needs
to be completed within a month’s time.
The deliverables
will be as follow:
·        
Inception
report
·        
Final
methodology, sample size, questionnaires and tools presentation.
·        
Draft
report of the study.
·        
Final
report in both hard copy (3 copies) and soft copy
·        
PowerPoint
presentation with key findings.
Key Activities and Tasks
·        
To
design (semi-) structured questionnaires (household survey, key informants) and
focus groups framework in line with the objectives of the study and with HI
instructions;
·        
To
design the sampling methodology and propose samples;
·        
To
conduct pre-testing and finalize the questionnaires accordingly;
·        
To
collect data among the identified sample;
·        
To
conduct any relevant documentary review;
·        
To
process and analyse the collected data;
·        
To submit
the final reports and other deliverables on time (including progress report and
drafts)
Data and Analysis required on:
·        
Measure
of the levels of knowledge of our target populations in terms of Mental Health
and psychosocial normal reactions to crisis situation and coping mechanisms
(individual and social).
·        
Determine
the attitudes of target populations towards people with mental health and
psychosocial issues, as well as towards their own mental health and
psychosocial issues.
·        
Determine
which are the common practices of target populations when in relation with
people having mental health issues and psychosocial distress, and when they are
facing their own emotional distress and towards seeking or promoting support.
Methodology and Approach:
The consultant will
propose in his technical offer an adequate methodology and technical approach
to answer the objectives of the study. However, the overall approach has to be
quantitative with elements of qualitative research. The research strategy should
encompass documentation review, household survey as well as key informant
interviews and focus groups. Household survey is to be done using
(semi-)structured questionnaires. The methodology and sampling should be
adequate to answer adequately the research questions.
The
proposal/expression of interest should include a detailed proposed methodology:
size and structure of the sample and example of questionnaire. The study targets both adults and children. 
Limitations of the
chosen methodology and sampling have to be clearly stated in the proposal/expression
of interest.

Evaluation Process
The application will
be evaluated against the following criteria:

Relevance,
efficiency and effectiveness of proposed methodology and technical approach;
·        
Organisational
and technical capacity of the applicant;
·        
Relevant
experience in similar type of research; and
·        
Budget
