NURI (Northern Uganda Resilience Initiative) programme, which will be
implemented from 2019 to 2022. In Arua district, the intervention for Climate
Smart Agriculture (CSA) will be implemented by Arua District Farmers’ Association
(ARUDIFA). The main target for the strategic agricultural intervention is to
make farming communities more resilient to climate change and to increase the
average value of agricultural production for participating farmers. NURI in
Arua district will support 890 farmer groups or app. 26,700 farmers inclusive
of the refugees. NURI will build on the experiences from DAR but with a
stronger focus on climate smart agriculture and support to refugee cause. NURI
will be implemented in close cooperation with the District Local Government as
well as UNHCR and OPM where refugees apply.
responsible for the selection, training and follow up of Farmer Groups
- Carry out selection of the farmer groups as per the guidelines
- Guide the farmer groups in viable enterprise selection and in
preparation of production and marketing plans. - Identify training needs of farmer groups
- Conduct training of farmer groups and establish demonstrations for
hands-on learning as in accordance with the provided Training Manuals and
other implementation guidelines. - Carry out individual farmer visits to provide tailored advisory
service - Keep record of farmer groups’ trainings and other information
related to each group - Conduct periodic assessments of progress of farmers and training
needs. - Guide farmer groups on marketing activities.
- Collect production and marketing data and any other forms of data
required by the program from time to time - Distribute inputs to farmers in accordance with organization
guidelines - Organize and participate in farmer open days
- Link the farmer groups to other services such as WAY under CARE,
VSLA etc. - Prepare monthly activity plans.
- Prepare monthly progress reports and submit to Agric. Extension
Supervisor. - Perform any other duties as assigned.
- The applicant must hold a diploma in Agriculture or Crop Production
from a reputable training institution. - At least two years of work experience in agricultural extension.
- Technical skills in program planning and implementation.
- Fluency in English and a relevant local language.
- Basic computer skill i.e. MS Office.
- A valid motorcycle riding permit is a must.
