Uganda (A4HU) is a youth empowerment organization dedicated to mainstream young
peoples’ engagement in socio-economic development and promoting Sexual and
Reproductive Health and rights (SRHR). A4HU was registered in October 2017 as a
new entity to take over the operations of DSW (Deutsche Stiftung
Weltbevoelkerung) in Uganda. For the past 18 years DSW has supported the
implementation of a portfolio of projects to improve sexual and reproductive
health of young people in Uganda.
Job Summary:  The Project Officer-Advocacy will be responsible
for advocacy-related activities; works closely with Youth Empowerment Centers,
the Youth Network and Youth Champions to support their engagements with
district and national fora in line with government policies.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Coordinate and implement the organisation’s Advocacy strategy.
  • Provide technical support, backstopping and relevant resources.
    about the latest developments in the field of Advocacy for Health.
  • Support resource mobilisation efforts to ensure funds for advocacy
    programmes are available.
  • Represents the organisation’s overall perspectives and interests to
    external and internal stakeholders
  • Participate in advocacy events/ activities at various levels these
    include civic education activities, budget processes as well as meetings with
    decision/policy makers to name but a few.
  • Participate in internal trainings for advocacy in addition to
    involvement in provision of technical assistance to partners.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in social
    sciences, development studies or related field.
  • At least three years of relevant experience in working with a non
    for profit organisations
  • Good understanding of Sexual and Reproductive Health issues globally
    and in Uganda
  • Hands on experience in policy advocacy
  • Knowledgeable of policy frameworks related to health in Uganda
  • Knowledgeable of decision making structures/levels both at local
    government and central government
  • Should have strong interpersonal skills
  • Should be able to work independently under minimal supervision
  • Should have strong communication skills and fluent in English
    language both spoken and written
  • Excellent computer skills
