Airport. It is headquartered in Entebbe, Wakiso District, Uganda, and operates
from its hub in Entebbe International Airport. 
Job Summary:  The Captain will be designated for each
flight under the Uganda Airlines Operations. The Captain will be in-charge of
the safety, security and conduct of flight while on duty and supervise all
actions and activities of other crew members who work on that flight.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Have authority for overall management of the entire flight, ensuring
    safety and security of the Aircraft and persons on board.
  • Have authority to give all operationally required commands as he
    deems necessary for the purpose of securing the safety of aircraft and of
    persons or property carried therein.
  • Have authority to disembark any person, baggage or any part of the
    cargo, which in his opinion, may represent a potential hazard to the
    safety of the aircraft or its occupants.
  • Not permit any person to be carried on-board the aircraft who
    appears to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, to the extent that
    the safety of the aircraft or its occupants is likely to be endangered.
  • Have the right to refuse transportation of inadmissible passengers,
    deportees or persons in custody if their carriage poses any risk to the
    safety of the aircraft or its occupants.
  • Ensure that all passengers are briefed on the location of emergency
    exits and the location and use of relevant safety and emergency equipment.
  • Ensure that all operational procedures and checklists are complied
    with in accordance with the Operations Manual.
  • In an emergency situation that requires immediate decision and
    action, he may take any measures deemed necessary under those
    circumstances. In such cases he may deviate from rules, operational
    procedures and methods in the interest of safety.
  • Not permit any crew member to perform any activity during take-off,
    initial climb, final approach and landing except those duties required for
    the safe operation of the aircraft.
  • Ensure that, during a particular flight, the entire crew adheres to
    duty and rest time limitations.
  • Not permit a Flight Data Recorder to be disabled, switched off or
    erased during flight nor permit recorded data to be erased after flight in
    the event of an accident or an incident subject to mandatory reporting.
  • Not permit a Cockpit Voice Recorder to be disabled or switched off
    during flight.
  • Ensure that the pre-flight inspection has been carried-out and decide
    whether or not to accept the aircraft with unserviceability allowed by the
    CDL or MEL.
  • Ensure that sufficient fuel is uplifted for the trip and aeroplane
    refueling is supervised.
  • Check fuel caps/cover for security and correct installation after
    refuelling.
  • Ensure that during taxi, take-off and landing or in turbulence, all
    passengers are safely secured in their seats with the seat belt sign on
    and all cabin baggage properly stowed.
  • Ensure that cockpit crew wear shoulder harnesses up to Flight Level
    150 and Cabin crew are properly secured in their seats during take-off and
    landing.
  • Ensure that private /personal letters or parcels are not transported
    on Company aircraft.
  • Be familiar with duties to be performed on the respective aircraft
    systems regarding handling of normal/abnormal and emergency procedures.
  • Other than his overall responsibility, he is authorised to delegate
    tasks to his crew and to other suitable personnel. It is his duty to
    co-ordinate, supervise and check the tasks of his crew.
  • He maintains good CRM, encourages teamwork and ensures that his crew
    members receive all information essential for the performance of their
    tasks.
  • He co-ordinates the performance of flight deck related tasks and
    duties and decides on who acts as Pilot Flying (PF)
  • In order to promote the aeronautical experience and knowledge of his
    Co-pilot, the Commander shall give him the opportunity to plan and conduct
    the flight, or portions thereof, under his supervision.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate for the Uganda Airlines Director Captain job
    placement must hold a valid ATPL and IR.
  • 4000 hours flying experience of which 500 hours as pilot-in-command
    on CRJ900 aircraft.
  • A valid type rating on CRJ900 aircraft.
  • Hold a Class 1 Medical.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with Uganda’s aviation regulations and the
    company’s operations manuals.
  • No Accident or Incident record.
  • No criminal record.
  • Minimum of level 4 of proficiency in English.
  • Individual assessments for satisfactory command ability will be
    carried out as part of the interview process.
  • Being a member of an aviation professional body is an added
    advantage.
