About US:
Mandated by the
Uganda Cancer Institute Act of 2016, the UCI is an autonomous body, with the
mandate to, among others, undertake and coordinate the management of cancer and
cancer-related diseases in Uganda. It is critical to the evolution of a
National Centre of Excellence, providing specialized treatment and care for all
types of cancer using all the available subspecialty expertise possible, as
well as engineering oncology-centered research and training.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Requisitions and ensures that supplies are available
  • Advises and updates clinicians on prescriptions
  • Liaises with ward management in ensuring that medicines are properly
    recorded and stored
  • Participates in planning and budgeting for the pharmacy unit and
    accounts for medicines.
  • Participates in drugs and clinically related research
  • Compiles reports to the Senior Pharmacist
  • Ensures equipment is functional and well maintained
  • Liaises with National Drug Authority in ensuring that all medicines
    conform to prescribed standards
  • Advises patients and communities on the proper use and storage of
    drugs
  • Imparts knowledge and skills to health students and staff
  • Compiles and submits reports to the Senior Pharmacist
  • Carrying out any other duties as may be assigned from time to time

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant for the Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) Pharmacist
    (Mbarara Regional Cancer Center) job must be a Ugandan holding a
    Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy or its equivalent from a recognized
    University or institution.
  • Must be registered with the Pharmacy Board
  • Postgraduate training in pharmacy is an added advantage
