Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • The job holder will be responsible for providing timely legal
    opinions to support Total E&P Uganda (Total)’s operations in Uganda,
    Acting as the legal entity’s focal point with respect to Total’s land
    access, acquisition and resettlement activities.
  • Ensuring Total’s compliance with statutory and regulatory
    requirements in Uganda, Identifying potential legal/contractual risks and
    propose mitigation measures.
  • Monitoring and analyze national and international laws and
    regulations and advise on their impact on Total’s operations.
  • Drafting, reviewing and participating in the negotiation of
    agreements and other legal documentation. Liaising with various
    stakeholder including Government departments and agencies, Joint Venture
    Partners, Local communities and contractors to resolve contractual and
    other legal issues.
  • Participating in legal research.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The applicants for the TOTAL Legal Counsel upstream job opportunity
    should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (minimum Upper Second), Diploma in
    legal practice, Master’s degree with oil and gas, business or
    environmental law specialization is an added advantage.
  • Five years of legal experience in a law firm or commercial
    environment.
  • Excellent Contract drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural business environment.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
