International NGO that exists to alleviate poverty and oppression by helping
people build secure, productive and just communities. Mercy Corps has been
fully registered in Uganda as an operational NGO. Currently Mercy Corps has an
office in Kampala and is implementing Food Security programs which comprise of
Water and Sanitation, Livelihood and Agriculture and Conflict Mitigation
Management Program in North and North Eastern Uganda. We implement programs in
the northern districts of Pader, Kitgum, Agago, Lamwo, Kaabong, Abim and Kotido
with funding from USAID, USDA, Walmart Foundation, SDC, DFID as well as other
private donations.
NetHope Mobile Phone Program is to increase access to mobile phone technology
and mobile phone services among vulnerable populations in West Nile Refugee
Settlements and surrounding host communities. In addition, the program
incorporates an element of market integration designed to improve supply chains
between larger regional distributors (In this case, we are working with AIRTEL
Uganda) and local traders in the settlements of Bidibidi in Yumbe, Palorinya in
Moyo and Rhino Camp in Arua.
graduate program which include but not limited to:
- Gain learnings in access to technology in humanitarian/refugee
setting in Yumbe, Moyo and Arua - Learn the operational details of working with private sector
partners and NGOs in the field and gain firsthand experience with
technology for development programming - Research and work with the Program Manager to choose software for
smart phones that is relevant to Mercy Corps’ programming. Design and work
with the program team to implement trainings on use of applications for
business development, savings tracking, budgeting and similar topics. - Develop case studies of success stories for use of smart and basic
phones within the refugee settlements as well as a learning document on
governance models related to solar home charging systems
Developing and implementing humanitarian mobile access activities by:
- Prepare and submit timely weekly and monthly reports on program
process through coordination with the program team - A short (maximum 5-pages) report detailing applications for smart
phones that are relevant to Mercy Corps programming, pros and cons in
addition to cost analysis. - Develop and implement a work plan for identifying, downloading and
training beneficiaries on a range of smart phone applications. - Participating in mobilization, sensitization, training of
beneficiaries both Refugees and Host - Support implementation of community mobilizers and village traders
training - Support any potential market assessment and data gathering, Post
Distribution Monitoring (PDM), and endline data gathering as needed.
- The ideal candidate for the Mercy Corps Program Graduate Trainee job
opportunity should hold a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Business
Studies, Rural Development, Computer Science or related field is desirable
and preferred. - Candidate must be a self-starter, motivated and able to work
independently and take initiative. The successful candidate will also have
good English language, verbal and written communication skills; - Fluency in local West Nile languages is an added advantage.
- The applicant must be a recent graduate and should have graduated
with in the last 2 years.
Graduate Trainee schedule is for 5 months from August to December 2018.
