Corporation (URC) is a body corporate established under an Act of Parliament to
construct, operate and maintain railway, marine and road services both inside
and outside Uganda for the carriage of passengers and goods. As a result of
privatisation of operations, the mandate of URC changed from that of an
operator to that of asset holder, concession monitor and advisor on railway
technical matters.

Job Summary: The Internal Auditor will provide assistance
to the Senior Internal Auditor in performing audits of general Corporation
operations. The duties include analyzing
evidential data as a basis for an informed, objective opinion and preparing
comprehensive reports.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Actively participate in performing financial and managerial audits
of general Corporation operations in accordance with accepted professional
standards. - Aid the audit manager in determining whether areas reviewed are
performing their planning, accounting, custodial and control activities in
compliance with managerial guidelines and applicable statements of policy
and procedures and in a manner consistent with both the Corporation
objectives and high standard of administration practice. - Obtain and analyse data to provide an objective, informed opinion on
the accuracy and fairness of financial statements. This includes
performing analytical procedures and recommending adjustments to Corporation
financial statements. - With guidance from the Senior Internal Auditor, determine the
direction, and extent of assigned audits. - Participate in the audits of the Corporation systems to establish
and ensure effectiveness of accounting and managerial controls and
accuracy of recorded data, promote efficiency, safeguard the Corporation’s
assets and monitor compliance with applicable laws, policies and
procedures. - Exercise professional judgement to determine materiality of findings
and adequacy and effectiveness of controls. - Discuss deficiencies and recommend corrective actions to improve
operations and reduce costs. Plan and prepare written reports to the
concerned. - Perform post audit review to determine the extent to which audit
recommendations have been implemented. Assist in performance of special
reviews requested by Management. - Assist in performance of special reviews requested by management.
- Maintain knowledge of current accounting and auditing practices
through continuing professional education.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the Uganda Railways Corporation (URC)
Internal Auditor job placement should possess a Bachelor’s degree in
Accounting/Finance related field - Professional qualification e.g. CPA, ACCA
- A minimum of three years of related work experience
- High integrity & confidentiality
- Good interpersonal skills and team work
- Good personal presentation
- Ability to express oneself both verbally and written
- Age: 25 – 40 years
