Laboratory Manager
Born and Child Health Institute ( MNCHI ) which is established under Mbarara
University of Science and Technology (MUST) is set to provide
inter-disciplinary training, research and strengthened service delivery in
order to achieve safe motherhood and improve the health of children.
successful collection, processing, storage, testing, and management of
specimens in line with good clinical laboratory practice, in collaboration with
the US and Ugandan Principal Investigators and the Mbarara-based research team.
The Incumbent will be directly responsible for management and oversight of all
study laboratory related procedures.
- Implement standard operating procedures for study laboratory
procedures; - Conduct specimen collection, handling, processing, and storage;
- Ensure good clinical practice for all study laboratory procedures;
- Coordinate shipment and testing of study specimens;
- Partner with database manager to design and manage data systems for
laboratory components of the study; - Collect and enter laboratory result data;
- Work closely with the Laboratory Director to monitor the
effectiveness of protocols and interview strategies; - Participate in weekly meetings with the study staff and Principal
Investigator; - Provide weekly summary reports of laboratory components to the study
staff and Principal Investigators; - Conduct all work in compliance with internationally recognized
ethical standards; - Other duties as assigned.
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in a laboratory-related
field is required; - Experience with and certification in Good Clinical Laboratory
Practice is a requirement; - Experience in blood and other specimen collection for research
purposes is a requirement; - Experience with laboratory specimen handling, centrifugation,
processing, pipetting, and dried and blood spot preparation is required; - Experience in HIV/AIDS testing, malaria testing, and hematology is a
plus; - Previous experience with laboratory-based research is a plus;
- Significant computer experience, including data entry and quality
control, is required; Competency with phlebotomy is required; - Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced environment with
minimal supervision is essential; - Knowledge of research ethics is essential.
