Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) is a non-profit research organization.
IDRC conducts research in infectious diseases including Malaria, HIV and
Tuberculosis. Our studies have led to over 150 publications and have impacted
on the management of infectious diseases in Uganda. IDRC currently manages over
41 grants with an annual budget of $11 million. IDRC was established in May
2008 by Ugandan health scientists from Makerere University College of health
sciences, University of California, San Francisco and the Uganda Ministry of
health.

Job Summary: The Data Officer will support the IBIS Health
study based in Mbarara with frequent travels to the study sites. The IBIS
Health study will evaluate the comparative effectiveness and sustainability of
innovative incentive strategies, informed directly by theories from behavioural
economics and decision psychology, to promote repeat HIV testing among high
risk populations, and HIV treatment among HIV-infected adults in rural Uganda.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Verbally administering questionnaires to participants and recording
responses using computer tablets, and providing follow up tracking for
participants lost to follow up. - Performing data abstraction and entry from various source documents
to study documents as well as study databases. - Identifying, entering, updating and verifying research data into
project data collection systems. - Creating and/or modifying study databases.
- Responding to periodic data queries generated and participating in
data cleaning. - Reviewing and verifying previously entered data to ensure accuracy.
- Training other project personnel on project data collection and
entry procedures. - Ensuring accuracy and confidentiality of information recorded.
- Work in close conjunction with the Regional Data Manager, carries
out routine maintenance of project computer systems
Key Result Areas:
- Accurate and timely data entry and resolution of data queries.
- Data validation and quality control.
- Participants correctly screened, enrolled and followed up.
- Developing and maintaining participants’ financial incentives tracking
data base. - Generating regular study progress reports.
- Maintaining high levels of confidentiality.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration
(IDRC) Data Officer job must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science,
Statistics, Information Technology or related field from a recognized
institution. - Must have prior working experience in a research setting.
- Must have Evidence of GCP/HSP training
- Additional training in HIV and related infectious diseases is an
added advantage. - Integrity and ability to develop a good working relationship with
communities. - Must have knowledge of research ethics.
- Excellent knowledge (both oral and written) of Runyankole/ Rukiga
languages.
