Legal Metrology
Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Trade
Industry and Cooperatives mandated to coordinate the elaboration of standards
and quality of products and services so as to facilitate fair trade, promote
local industries and protect consumers.
- Coordinate and monitor the implementation of Pre-package Control
programs. - Monitor measurement traceability of working standards in line with
departmental policies and procedures - Sensitize Manufacturers and Importers concerning pre-package
requirements in line with set standards and guidelines - Prepare draft legislations and/or review existing legislations for
control of prepackaged goods. - Prosecute offenders under the weights and measures Act.
- Develop and maintain data base for the samples tested in line with
departmental policies and procedures - Provide technical support to field staff, supervise, monitor and
mentor staff in the Division to ensure that they handle their assignments
professionally and follow the inspectors code of conduct as they execute
their roles - Provide technical support, sensitization and guidance to traders and
all stakeholders in line with prepackage control requirements. - Develop and monitor the implementation of the annual, quarterly and
monthly budget, work plans and targets of all activities to be undertaken
within the Division - Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports

Principal Legal Metrologist- Prepackage Control job opportunity should
hold a Masters’ degree in Science or any other related field from a
recognized University/Institute - Honours degree in physics, engineering and any other related field.
- Certificate in Investigations and prosecution
- At least eight years of related work experience
- Hands-on supervisory competencies with capacity to multi-task and
deliver results efficiently with minimal supervision - Computer literacy skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the
Internet applications - The successful candidate must have a high level of integrity and
professionalism, Communication, Teamwork and Analytical skills. - Age: Between 30
and 45 years
