About BRAC UGANDA, Health-Program:
BRAC’s health
program trains, supervises and manages 4,075 community Health Promoters (CHPs)
and health promoters (volunteers) focusing on provision of reproductive,
maternal, neonatal, child health care (RMNCH), reducing vulnerability to
communicable diseases and improving nutrition. BRAC has a nutrition pilot in
its branches in the central and eastern parts of Uganda, and would like to get
a highly motivated individual with training in nutrition related disciplines
and community work experience to steer the pilot project.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Perform operational management and coordination, together with the
    existing BRAC staff, all the nutrition pilot activities within the context
    of the CHP platform
  • Coordinate nutrition pilot activities in all the pilot branches,
    ensuring that all nutrition activities are streamlined within the
    framework of the CHPs platform
  • Regular reporting on the progress of the nutrition activities from
    all branches, and analyzing all reports so as to inform management on
    progress of the pilot
  • Offer technical, operational, and administrative support to program
    assistants and community health promoters with regards to the nutrition
    activities, and ensuring that all nutrition related activities are
    conducted holistically within the framework of the CHP platform
  • Conduct necessary field trips and site visits to ensure effective
    implementation of the pilot project activities in the branches, and
    reaching to CHPs’ communities to support implementation of the CHP
    activities such as nutrition assessments in the context of ICCM
  • Ensure that all assessed children who require referral according to
    MoH / WHO guidelines are referred and followed up with a clear trail of
    verifiable documentation.
  • Support the CHPs and PAHs in the incorporation / entry of nutrition
    activities into the CHP mobile platforms, and the BRAC MIS system.
  • Ensure that all BRAC branches have adequate supply of nutrition
    supplies, and ensure rational uptake of these supply by communities, in
    line with Ministry of Health and WHO guidelines and standards.
  • Work closely with BRAC field teams and liaise with the respective
    District Health Offices in the branches of operation, to create and foster
    working relationships.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate for the BRAC International Nutritionist job
    placement should hold a bachelor’s degree in human nutrition &
    diabetics or Food science & technology or a related field.
  • One to two years of health-related experience in Community Health
    work with community health workers (such as Wage Health Teams and other
    related structures).
  • Should have expertise in nutrition assessment, counseling &
    support especially infant & young children feeding therapeutic
    feeding, referral linkages for more comprehensive nutrition care and
    rehabilitation, and working knowledge of Ministry of Health Uganda and WHO
    guidelines and standards.
  • Should possess good interpersonal, supervisory and mentorship skills
    to mobilize & inspire trust among team members as well as the
    community to drive performances on health and sales
  • Good communication skills, proposal writing and computer skills (MS
    office proficiency)
  • Good report writing planning and analytical skills are a must
