Virus Research Unit on AIDS was established following a request in 1988 from
the Uganda Government to the British Government for collaboration on the
research of HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) infection and AIDS (Acquired
Immunodeficiency. The Unit is a center of excellence in HIV/AIDS related
research. It conducts large-scale epidemiological and intervention studies,
clinical trials, virological and immunological research and behavioural
studies, and has generated a wealth of research results that have been used to
inform policy and practice that have led to a large number of scientific
publications in peer reviewed journals over time.
recruitment, clinical evaluation and care of research participants
- Actively participate in protocol development, reviews and
comprehends the protocol and other study materials, attends investigator
meetings - Participant recruitment and retention
- Obtains informed consent, screens for study eligibility, enrolls and
follows up study participants - Ensure completeness and accuracy of data collected by site team by
checking checklists/ questionnaires regularly s Provides clinical care to
study participants, interpret lab results and conducts referrals as
appropriate
management:
- Collects data as required by the protocol, completes source
documents and CRFs and submits them for data entry, and resolves queries - Prescribes and where appropriate administers the Investigational
Product.
- Supervises other study clinical officers and nurses
- Provide clinical support to other staff and health workers
- Provide clinical mentorship for healthcare workers providing
clinical care at the site - Participate in site team trainings
- Ensure that GCP guidelines are followed in the conduct of study
procedures and activities
Principal Investigator
- The applicant must hold an MBChB degree or equivalent Clinical
Qualifications. - One year of experience in a clinical research setting.
- Experience in conducting research in a population-based setting is
an added advantage. - Clear understanding of how to screen, diagnose and treat common
acute and chronic diseases and how to apply appropriate referral
protocols. - Understanding of ICH/GCP guidelines for human research.
- Knowledge of research study protocols and practices.
- Understanding Phases of clinical trials.
- Fluency in English
- Ability to understand, listen and speak Luganda.
- Appropriate and up-to-date licensure to provide clinical care.
