Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) is a non-profit research organization.
IDRC conducts research in infectious diseases including Malaria, HIV and Tuberculosis.
Our studies have led to over 150 publications and have impacted on the
management of infectious diseases in Uganda. IDRC currently manages over 41
grants with an annual budget of $11 million. IDRC was established in May 2008
by Ugandan health scientists from Makerere University College of health
sciences, University of California, San Francisco and the Uganda Ministry of
health.
PRISM study to be based in Nagongera, Tororo district.
- Tasked with the recruitment and consenting study participants in the
local language (Dhopadhola) - Intravenous blood draw by venipuncture from study participants for
membrane feeding assays. - Conducting membrane feeding experiments and Magnetic Cell Sorting
(MACS) of gametocytes - Observing safety and quality assurance practices
- Mosquito dissections for oocyst development
- Field larval and adult mosquito sample collections and mosquito
colony maintenance. - Microscopy Reading parasite stained slides for asexual stage
identification and quantification. Adherence to strict Professional code
of conduct and Research Ethics - Storage of samples in RNA Later (Ambion) for RNA preservation for
gene expression studies for investigating metabolic forms of resistance or
other assays. - Conducting resistance bioassays using insecticide treated papers for
phenotypic investigation of insecticide resistance and development of
Lethal time curves (to determine the LT50) - Sample storage, data recording and analysis
- Dissemination of findings
- Insectary maintenance and adherence to standard operating procedures
- Continuous production of mosquitoes for transmission and resistance
studies, - Transmission experiments
- Sample storage
- Proper filling and filing of CRF’s,
- Well maintained Insectary
- The applicant must hold a Diploma in Medical Entomology
- Skill and experience in both wild and colony mosquito rearing;
- Mosquito dissection, parasite/gametocyte detection from stained
slides - Previous experience in insectary management is key.
- Good computer skills in MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Access.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
