Sciences Program is a collaborative Bio-medical research and service delivery
organization. It strives to improve the quality of life of the local population
through a combination of community based research, curative services and
prevention strategies in the District of Rakai, South Western Uganda. It is
based at the Uganda Virus Research Institute Entebbe and Kalisizo in Rakai
District.

Working together
with the district and health facility teams, the program is seeking to improve
SAME-DAY ART initiation and RETENTION of clients on ART in Masaka region.
Applications are therefore invited from qualified and competent Ugandans who
are PASSIONATE about providing counseling services on a volunteer basis.

Job Summary: The Volunteer Counselor will provide
counseling services to newly diagnosed HIV patients and those already in care.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide counseling services to newly diagnosed HIV patients, their
partners and families as appropriate. - Provide appropriate counselling for same-day ART initiation
- Offer on-going counselling to HIV+ clients, their partners and
families as appropriate. - Provide adherence counseling to clients failing on ART
- Identify clients eligible for APN and provide appropriate counseling
as per protocol.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a diploma in Counselling and Guidance or its
equivalent from a recognized institution of higher learning. Candidates
with additional training at certificate level in HIV/ADIS Counselling from
a reputable institution or experience in HIV counselling from rural health
facilities - Applicants with two years of experience will stand higher chances of
being considered.
