Acholi Project (Regional Health Integration to Enhance Services in Northern
Uganda – Acholi), USAID will continue its support of the Government of Uganda’s
(GOU) efforts to improve access to and use of health services in the country’s
post-conflict northern region. RHITES-N Acholi Project activities will build on
USAID investments and national advances to increase access to and use of
high-quality integrated services that accelerate the ability and capacity to
respond to the specific health needs of residents in the Acholi sub-region,
leveraging the URC-ASSIST project successes.
implementation of SBC activities at community level, including implementing and
monitoring the execution of RHITES North Acholi communication strategies for
respective priority areas. S/he will play a leading role in the development of
SBC intervention strategies and frameworks.
- Oversee concept testing and pre-testing of all communication
materials that are developed. - Oversee targeted dissemination of SBCC messages and campaign
materials at community levels - Develop success stories and lessons learnt during implementation of
the communication activities, and ensure that regular publications (case
studies, project updates, newsletters, etc.) are printed, and updated in a
timely and consistent manner. - Document project case studies, lessons learnt, best practices in SBC
and contribute to the knowledge based through participation in scientific
forums and technical networks. - Generate weekly, monthly and quarterly progress reports on the
project’s communication activities for project monitoring and evaluation. - Oversee the coordinated development of SBC materials and SBC
strategies aimed at promoting behaviours related to the seven health
priority areas of HIV; Tuberculosis; Malaria; Maternal New born and Child
Health; Nutrition; Reproductive Health, Family Planning, Water Sanitation
and Hygiene - Gathering and analysing SBC related data that will provide insights
to enrich SBC implementation in respective districts - Provide authoritative interpretation of complex SBC challenges at
community level and developing innovative solutions - Organizing community engagement activities to increase learning and
adoption of healthy behaviours. - Establish and maintain partnerships with RHITES N Acholi project as
well as other stakeholders including District officials, Media, NGOs,
Community actors to ensure achievement of project targets. - Perform any other duties as may be assigned by management.
- The applicant for the Community Coordinator USAID Project job must
hold a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Mass Communication, social sciences,
Public Health, or other related degree; post graduate training in
strategic communication will be an added advantage. - Ability to demonstrate specific hands-on knowledge and skills in
planning, designing, implementing, monitoring, and reporting of SBCC
programs especially in prevention activities, with an understanding of
social cultural and economic issues related to health. - Capable of delivering on set targets, with networking capabilities
and able to manage competing priorities. - Four years of relevant experience working in public health
communication programming for development/humanitarian projects/programs
in a donor environment, in managing social behavior change communication
campaigns, and in monitoring public health communication-related projects
of similar scope in a social marketing field. Experience working with
USAID programs will be an added advantage. - Experience in working with national and community SBCC intervention
programs; Specific hands-on knowledge and skills in planning, designing,
implementing and monitoring SBCC programs especially in prevention
approaches is mandatory. - Demonstrated handling of BCC interventions and hands-on experience
in driving targeted SBCC campaigns, and in communication stakeholder
management, digital marketing tools, and social media is essential. - Demonstrable results in previous work environment should reinforce
claims to this experience. - Knowledge of public health service delivery, community outreaches
and social marketing, and experience in working with community
health-intervention programs and in dissemination of information through
different communication channels. - A motivated, focused, disciplined professional with excellent
communication, interpersonal, analytical and result-oriented skills. - Good judgment, initiative, high sense of responsibility, tactful,
ability to plan, organize and measure outcomes of interventions. - Exemplary and honest, with a high level of energy and integrity, and
able to work under minimum supervision. - Flexible, innovative, with good record keeping, communication,
presentation, report-writing, and interpersonal skills. - Team player with the ability to make positive contributions.
- Ability to speak Acholi is an added advantage.
