educating circumstances: the school environment, livelihoods of teachers, and
access for under resourced students and to do so in a way that is sustainable.
Job Summary:  The Story Curator will work with our Program
Director and Story Corp members to collect and curate traditional Ugandan
stories from around the country. The Story Curator will also help transform
said stories into the form of Children’s books to be published both in Uganda
and the United States in an effort to promote native language literacy and
cultural preservation in Uganda. The position is based in Kampala, but may
require travel to Story Corp Members locations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Coordinate collection of stories from
    regional storycorps
  • Verify the authenticity of stories
    collected and accuracy of translations
  • Shortlist stories for publication
  • Transform translations into publishable
    children’s stories written in both vernacular and English copies
  • Create a separate, culturally relevant
    activity to include at the end of each publishable story
  • Coordinating follow-up Sodas and Stories
    events where books will be launched and podcasts recorded
    .
  • Coordinate with pre-approved
    illustrators to obtain a finished product
  • Identify and interview Storycorps for
    each region where stories are being collected
  • Ensure books / activities are aligned
    with curriculum standards in Uganda and USA

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s
    Degree in the following fields: Literature, Education or related area
    .
  • Leadership experience in management role
  • Superior oral and written communication
    skills in English
  • Oral and written fluency in as many
    vernacular languages as possible
  • Computer fluency and understanding of
    Microsoft and Google Suite is required
