is actively involved in programs geared towards the protection and improvement
of lives of disadvantaged people living in urban and rural areas in Uganda and
in the Great Lakes Region. InterAid Uganda is focused on its thematic areas of
Rights Protection, Education, Livelihood & Food Security, Health
(HIV&AIDS; Malaria; Maternal and Reproductive Health), Water, Sanitation
& Hygiene (WASH), Environment and Disaster Management and good Management
and Governance systems.
Job Summary: The
Child Protection Assistant (Children at Risk) will support the Child Protection
Officer to implement all activities targeting refugee children at risk to
access program services effectively from the organization.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
Process management
  • Planning, coordinating and implementing all planned activities for
    identified children at risk.
  • Conducting individual and group counselling in schools and at
    office.
  • Ensure that children at risk get the required services and
    protection. 
  • Supporting the Child Protection Officer in community mobilization of
    children to participate in child targeted program activities and open days
    to ensure participation of children in Open Days, International Day for
    the Girl Child and DAC.
  • Mobilizing, organizing and supporting children to form sports groups
    and music and dance and drama groups
  • Reunifying of families and placing of children at risk in foster
    care families.
  • Supporting the establishment of community based child protection
    structures and ensure they
  • are functioning and addressing child protection issues at the
    community level.
  • Supporting capacity building programs of refugee/host community to
    promote child participation.
  • Conducting site visits for follow up on identified children at risk.
  • Referring of identified children at risk to assess appropriate
    services
  • Presenting of UASC for education, food and shelter support.
  • Compiling of Best Interest Assessments.
  • Documenting the best practices implemented, success stories and case
    studies of the
  • community level changes for dissemination and learning.
  • Participating in meetings, daily morning address and special events
  • Compiling timely weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual and specific
    activity reports.
Records Management
  • Maintaining proper and updated records on all PoCs and in particular
    identified refugee children at risk on their files.
  • Signing in and out all accessed PoC files at the records office as
    per agreed SoPs
Risk Management: Identifying and assessing risks that may
happen to the section and PoC.
Compliance: Complying with policies and procedures during
designing, execution, monitoring and evaluation of the program activities.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the InterAid Uganda Limited (IAU) Child
    Protection Assistant (Children at Risk) job opportunity should preferably
    hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Law, Bachelor of Arts,
    Education, Social Work and Social Administration, Psychology, Child
    Development, Child Psychology, Community Psychology or any equivalent.
  • Additional professional training in Child Protection is added
    advantage.
  • At least two years’ relevant experience in implementing child
    protection programs including BIA assessments
  • Good presentation skills.
  • Good interviewing skills
  • Good listening skills
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of child rights issues and child
    rights instruments.
