(GIZ) GmbH is owned by the Federal republic of Germany with International
operations in Uganda, GIZ Implements commissions for the German government and
other national and international, public and private sector clients within the
framework of the international Cooperation between the Federal Republic of
Germany and the Government of Uganda.
Programme:
(ENWASS), implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale
Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic
Cooperation and Development (BMZ), aims at strengthening the institutional,
managerial and implementation capacities of the institutions in the water and
sanitation sector in Uganda with regard to climate change adaptation and
sanitation. Component one of the ENWASS programme aims at supporting Climate
sensitive Water Resources Management (IWRM) in Uganda.
- Drive programme vehicles
safely and chauffeur GlZ employees, official visitors and consultants and
guests to official destinations. - Assists in the transport
of goods.
- Regularly cleans the
inside and outside of the office vehicle. - Checks oil, water, brake
and clutch fluids on a daily bests; tyre pressures. Battery water, and
overall vehicle condition on a monthly basis or after 5000km whichever
comes earlier; tests lights, brakes, bodywork for dents, etc. - Reports the need for
maintenance and undertakes minor repairs is responsible for programme
vehicle documents and its care - Calculates the petrol, oil
and lubricant (POL) use on a monthly basis, is responsible for a special
petty cash for POL and submits vouchers to accounting on a monthly basis. - Reports the need for
maintenance and undertakes minor repairs. - Checks other programme
vehicles used by programme personnel (incl. cars, assigned to - Development Advisers)
Monitors and repots the need to renew car insurance incl. official cars
used by other programme personnel. Immediately reports any involvement of
the project/office vehicle In any, even minor accidents, or any damage or
theft of equipment from the vehicle. - Compiles driver reports on
the condition of vehicle.
- Uses all available
information (incl. actual radio news on traffic situations) to update
knowledge of street conditions, effective routes and locations daily. - Exchanges this information
with other drivers.
- Wears proper attire and
serves all passengers in a friendly manner. - Ensures his/her mobile
phone is charged and reachable during office hours at all times - Runs errands for the
ENWASS Kampala Office e.g. delivery of letters/messages, payment of bills,
and makes minor purchases as directed. - Compiles the logbook
correctly and accurately. - Does not use, at any time,
the car for his/her own private purposes. Such misuse of the vehicle is
considered a serious misconduct. and will immediately lead to a warning
and may result in dismissal. - Does not drink alcohol
before and during working hours.
- If there is no outside
driving activity, s/he stands by in the office, supports other colleagues
in case of need, and does other office work as assigned. - Reports any incident
whilst off duty that may affect his/her driving license entitlement, as
well as any newly known health problems that may affect his/her ability to
drive‘ - Assists in keeping 3rd
party insurance of programme cars updated - Helps programme
expatriates in renewing and obtaining valid driving license - Undertakes driving lessons
with new programme expatriates to familiarise them with - Ugandan traffic rules and
conditions. - Checks logbooks for
Development Advisors cars - Undertakes further job
training related to his/her position and duties, it required. - Assists in and/or carries
out other activities and any tasks as assigned.

Driver job placement must hold an Advanced Certificate of Education “A”
Level - Must have done a defensive
driving course and first aid training - Possession of a valid
driver’s license; a certificate in mechanics is an added advantage - Three years of working
experience as a driver, in an NGO setting with references. - Excellent English and
local language skills - Discipline and
punctuality; Stress tolerance and patience - Familiarity with Kampala
(incl. main institutions, hotels/restaurants) and water programme field
areas of operation. - No history of major
accidents within the past years (police letter of good conduct.) - Mechanical skills are an
added advantage.
