behalf of its valued Client. The client is one of the leading multinationals
companies in the gas and electricity sector with a global presence, operating
in 30 countries and with nearly 18 million customers. The Company’s fully owned
subsidiary in Uganda is focused on the operation, maintenance and management of
hydro-power stations. The Company requires competent individuals for various
positions for a hydro power plant in Achwa, near Gulu in Northern Uganda.
Job Summary:  The Operations and Maintenance Engineer will
be responsible and in charge of monitoring and control of the power plant and
equipment according to all applicable operational instructions and safety
procedures, regulations and standards. 
Carry out operational activities inside and outside the control room and
monitor, coordinate, control, plan, and perform mechanical equipment
maintenance activities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Keenly monitor, control and operate plant and system equipment
    ensuring the protection people, facilities and environment.
  • Inform, receive and implement load and switching orders from
    dispatch in the best technical, economic, safe and environmental
    conditions.
  • Describe and record operating information and events in logbooks to
    aid in evaluating present and past plant status.
  • Lead, delegate or carry out the maneuvers for the startup, operation
    and stopping of the power plant in the best technical, economic, safety
    and environmental conditions.
  • Study and analyze the operation procedures to optimize technical and
    economical operation of the facility.
  • Reporting on, and participation in, the investigation of any
    abnormal event, including near misses and low level events, and deciding
    on measures to be taken to reduce the probability of a similar situation
    recurring as an actual plant event.
  • Operate and monitor the performance and status of equipment in the
    field and to recognize any deviations from normal conditions.
  • Monitor plant and processes to ensure that operation is in
    accordance with all relevant operating procedures.
  • Establish and implement mechanical maintenance procedures and
    schedules for plant equipment.
  • Detect, analyze, propose and implement modifications in the
    facilities that improve the maintainability of the plant.
  • Analyze, establish and propose the need of spare parts, materials
    and equipment as well as existing stock to carry out mechanical
    maintenance.
  • Establish the scope, material and human resources needed to carry
    out mechanical maintenance.
  • Set up and operate machine tools to repair or reproduce machine
    parts and fittings, with reference to blueprints or defective parts.
  • Coordinates and develops the mechanical maintenance plan as well as
    periodic revisions.
  • Ensure compliance to all applicable maintenance and safety procedures,
    regulations and standards.
  • Perform electrical and I&C maintenance and repair activities
  • Identify and address equipment malfunctions in electrical and
    I&C equipment and systems, recommend corrective action, and on
    approval make repairs or facilitates improvements

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or
    Mechanical engineering or any other relevant branch of Engineering
  • One to three years’ experience in a similar role
  • Must be able to multitask, problem solve, and implement innovative
    processes within a fast paced environment
  • Strong quantitative skills, ability to translate technical into cost
    estimates
  • Capable of developing technical writing and communications skills
