Referral Hospital has received a grant from EGPAF under the USAID RHITES-SW
project to support implementation of integrated health services, including
quality maternal and child health, HIV/AIDS, nutrition, malaria and child
development services at the hospital.
Job Summary:
The Nurse Counselor will provide continuous Counseling to clients and to
provide support to medical personnel in effectively carrying out their duties.
The Nurse Counsellor will be at times called upon to support the nursing
officers in offering nursing care to clients in the clinic.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Work closely with the health workers at selected health facility to
    support prevention, treatment, care and access of health service through
    offering counselling service to the clients on care to ensure continuum of
    HIV care and adherence to treatment.
  • The incumbent will monitor basic parameters of clients on treatment
    and monitor client’s adherence to treatment
  • Provide quality and comprehensive psychosocial services to clients,
    family members and communities
  • He / She will work with patients referred to access and utilize
    health care services linked to.
  • S/he will work with Community Health Workers (CHWs), linkages
    facilitators and expert clients to coordinate and ensure newly identified
    chronic care clients are enrolled, started on treatment and retained into
    available care and support Services. And also perform targeted home visits
    to foster family support
  • He / She will work with health workers to maintain a good
    appointment and follow ups system at the facility and the community to
    ensure patient retention in care.
  • The jobholder will engage and refer /link clients to other health,
    social and para legal service to ensure continuum of care and will
    maintain accurate and up to date daily activity logs and report.
  • Also, Nurse Counselor will also foster and build linkages for
    Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC), from facility to community.
  • The counselor will work closely with the HWs and expert clients to
    coordinate peer support group/ Family Support Group activities.
  • Work closely with the facility data clerks to ensure registers and
    indicators are well filled, accurate and up to date.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The applicant must hold a Certificate or Diploma in Nursing
  • A Degree in nursing will be an added advantage.
  • A minimum of 3 months training in counseling in HIV/ART and related
    illnesses.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in HIV/AIDS counseling.
