Uganda. In 2009, the company exported over 510,000 bags of coffee, each
weighing 60 kg. This represented approximately 16% of all the country’s coffee
export that year, totaling 3.2 million bags. The coffee was sold primarily the European
Union, Japan, Australia and South Sudan. The company also markets directly to
the major international coffee roasting companies. Kyagalanyi Coffee Ltd. is
part of the Volcafe group and is one of the leading exporters in Uganda.
Volcafe, is one of the world’s largest traders of arabica and robusta coffees
and provides beans for 50 billion cups of coffee each year.
Job Summary:
The Washed Arabica Specialist will be responsible for supporting operations in
the field and at our Central Warehouse reviewing all stages of production with
a specific focus on washed Arabicas.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Support production in the field at
    washing station level working closely with farmers and other Kyagalanyi
    team members in order to advise and guide on best practices
  • Develop and implement standard operating
    procedures to ensure high operating standards are in place and maintained
    regarding cherry selection and processing.
  • To train and develop the team on new and
    innovative techniques regarding washed processing, and drying techniques
  • To carry out regular knowledge sharing
    sessions with the field teams in order to enhance their skills and
    knowledge regarding washed Arabica.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The applicant must hold a University degree
    level education in a relevant discipline.
  • Significant experience in a similar role
    within the Coffee sector.
  • Previous field experience with a
    specific focus on washed Arabica.
  • Excellent knowledge of production and
    quality management.
  • Good awareness of compliance best
    practices and regulations.
  • Excellent understanding of quality
    assurance principles.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication
    skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Excellent organizational skills,
    attention to detail and able to handle multiple priorities at the same
    time.
  • Good computer skills including
    proficiency with Microsoft Office and able to master other software.
  • Ability to work well under pressure with
    a proactive can do attitude.
