Job Summary: The
Nutrition Specialist supports the development and preparation of the Child
Survival and Development program/s and is responsible for managing,
implementing, monitoring, evaluating and reporting of progress of the nutrition
projects within the country program, with focus on nutrition governance and
coordination, monitoring and evaluation of nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive
interventions. The Specialist is responsible to supporting the development of a
functional and sustainable national nutrition information system to inform and
monitor accelerated cover and reduction of disparities in nutrition at national
and district level.  The incumbent of the
post will be an active member of inter-sectoral teams and interagency
coordination on issues related to nutrition and will play a key role in
supporting capacity of partners to implement a sustainable nutrition information
system. The Specialist will be accountable for ensuring that all aspects of the
Nutrition project/programme promote gender equality, gender mainstreaming and
for collaborating to mainstream key features across all related sectors of the
country programme. The Specialist provides technical guidance and management
support throughout the programming processes to facilitate the administration
and achievement of concrete and sustainable results in maternal, infant and
child nutrition programs/projects according to plans, allocation, results
based-management approaches and methodology (RBM) and UNICEF’s Strategic Plans,
standards of performance and accountability framework.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the United
    Nations UNICEF Nutrition Specialist job opportunity should hold an
    Advanced University Degree or higher in nutrition, public health,
    nutritional epidemiology, global/international health and nutrition,
    health/nutrition research, food science, anthropology, policy and/or
    management, or other health or food related science field is required.
  • Additional training in gender and in
    nutrition programmes that promote gender equality is an asset.
  • At least five years of professional
    experience in nutrition (including nutrition-sensitive interventions),
    nutrition governance, food security, public health, related research or
    planning and management in relevant areas of maternal, infant and child
    nutrition, at the international level some of which preferably in a
    developing country is required.
  • Background and/or familiarity with
    information management systems and M&E and planning of nutrition
    projects is required.
  • Relevant experience in health/nutrition
    program/project development and management in any UN system agency or
    organization is an asset.
  • Experience in monitoring gender
    inequalities and in programming interventions that reduce these
    inequalities an asset
  • Developing country work experience
    and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required.
    Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French,
    Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
