Conservation Trust (BMCT) was established in 1994, with the major aim of
providing long-term reliable support for projects promoting research,
conservation of biological diversity and sustainable use of natural resources
in the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park (MGNP) and Bwindi Impenetrable National
Park (BINP) while at the same time promoting the well-being of neighboring
communities.
Job Summary: The
Trust Administrator has overall executive responsibility for the Trust
Administration Unit (TAU), general management and implementation of all BMCT
programmes.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:  
  • Offer overall management and technical
    leadership in the BMCT programme, in order to perform its mission and
    strategic objectives
  • Build a positive, image and portray good
    public image of the organization
  • Actively contribute to the Trust
    Management Board policy formulation and the implementation of Board’s
    decisions
  • Develop a fundraising plan, prepare
    fundraising proposals and undertake fundraising activities
  • Expose BMCT to international and local
    donors and promote close collaboration with them
  • Develop and maintain links with
    conservation and development organizations both nationally and
    internationally
  • Work closely with research institutions
    to prepare and monitor research in and around the parks
  • Work with the government, NGOs, and
    stakeholder communities to support development activities in and around
    the National Parks
  • Ensure reviews and implementation of the
    ten years strategic plans and develop work plans, budgets and strategies
    to implement strict controls and management of the approved budgets
  • Ensure that the Board is well informed
    about the management and performance of the Trust Endowment Fund
  • Ensure proper use of BMCT assets and
    preparations of periodic reports
  • Responsible as the Accounting Officer of
    BMCT to the Board Chairman and Board members for ensuring proper financial
    stewardship including meeting financial targets and obligations and having
    overall responsibility for the system of internal controls
  • He/she ensures effective implementation
    of Board decisions in accordance with BMCT policies and service delivery
    values and enforces authority and accountability of department operations
    and staff performance
  • He/she assists the Board Chairman to
    implement requirements of corporate governance and ensures that all Board
    Members and employees are notified of and understand the standing orders
    and financial Instructions and Regulations
  • The Trust Administrator employs and
    oversees the activities of staff and consultants and serves as the
    Secretary to the LCSC and the TMB.
  • Tracks the financial performance of the
    Fund Consulting Manager (overseas) and makes regular presentations to the
    TMB and the LCSC on financial performance.
  • Performs any other duties and
    responsibilities as delegated by the Board

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The Trust Administrator should hold an
    honors Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources Management or Community
    Development related programs and a master’s degree in Natural Resources
    Management, Biological Sciences or Business Administration is a must.
  • A minimum of ten years’ working
    experience in management of biodiversity conservation programs at least
    five of which must have been gained within Uganda preferably with
    reputable nonprofit making organization
  • Proven managerial, administrative and
    program management experience
  • Experience in strategic planning and
    management of nonprofit organizations
  • Experience in working with Boards and
    Committees
  • Good inter-personal skills, able to
    communicate effectively, confident and able to deal with a wide range of
    people
  • Strong and demonstrated analytical
    skills, conceptual and strategic planning competence,
  • Environment management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to fundraise,
    strong financial planning and management skills
  • Financial and human resources management
    skills
  • Good ICT skills
  • Knowledge of Government procedures
    especially Local Government functioning
