StrongMinds is a young dynamic rapidly growing organization whose focus is to
“Treat Depression at Scale in Africa “one of the silent killers. Since
inception about two and half years ago, SMU has treated well over 7,000
patients. In pursuit of its goal and 2017 annual objectives and impact, SMU is
doubling the size of its Uganda based work-force.
Job Summary: The
Peer Therapy Group (PTG) Program Supervisor will oversee the overall strategic
direction, coordination and administration of all aspects of the PTG Program
within SMU. The PTG Program is a core program that uses volunteer-led talk
therapy groups to ensure that the greatest number of people are depression-free
across Uganda. Currently the PTG Program supports 500 volunteers with this
number expanding year- on-year. A key results-driven strategic leader, this
role will oversee the scale-up, replication, and expansion of the PTG model,
whilst driving consistently high depression-free rates among clients served
through the program. In partnership with the Executive Director and the Program
Manager, the PTG Program Supervisor oversees the coordination and
administration of all aspects of the ongoing PTG program including planning,
organizing, leading, and controlling program activities, leading matters of
quality, utilization, training, patient safety, program management, and
clinical effectiveness. He or she is expected to be the banner carrier for the
PTG program within the programs team – ensuring that PTG is successful and a
leading program within StrongMinds Uganda and working with colleagues from other
programs (including the staff-led therapy sessions, and the volunteer pairing
program) to ensure that PTG is independently successful and streamlined
effectively within all other components of StrongMinds work in communities.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The Peer Therapy Group (PTG) Program
    Supervisor must hold a bachelor’s degree in Community Psychology; Social
    Work and Social Administration; Social Sciences; Nursing or any relevant
    health or social work qualification.
  • Five years of experience in program
    management and/or coordination, including proven experience of overseeing
    results-driven development programs
  • Strong partnership development and
    networking skills
  • Excellent numeracy skills with strong
    experience in budget management
  • Excellent understanding of project cycle
    management
  • Excellent verbal and written
    communications skills
  • Experience of overseeing and
    implementing monitoring, evaluation and reporting processes
  • Strategic leadership: experience of
    successfully growing a program to expand its outreach, impact and
    effectiveness.
  • Experience of donor management and
    reporting (preferred)
  • Ability to lead, inspire and develop a
    talented team, including experience of managing junior staff/volunteers
    with limited experience
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and
    ability to make sound operational decisions
  • Strong team player able to work under
    own initiative
  • Willingness to regularly travel to rural
    areas as required
  • A strong personal commitment to the
    values of StrongMinds Uganda
  • Expertise in volunteer management
  • Proven facilitation and training skills
    for a low literacy audience.
  • Knowledge of client groups and/or issues
    related to the program area – especially psychotherapy or counseling
  • Proficiency in the use of computers for
    word processing, databases, spreadsheets, E-mail and the internet
  • Language: English and Luganda.   Languages will be tested during
    interviews.
  • Ability and willingness to undertake
    physical movements between and within communities mostly by public means.
