Job Summary: 
The Head Private Banking will serve as;
  • The custodian of the private banking customer base and value
    proposition, being the point of reference for private banking in country.
  • Provide leadership to achieve the targeted growth and is accountable
    for the overall performance of private banking in country (financial,
    sales, service, credit, risk, compliance, etc)
  • Responsible for communicating the private banking value proposition
    and building relationships with the objective to deliver the value
    proposition.
  • Responsible for the effective day-to-day running of the private
    banking suite. full accountability for the sales, financial and business
    objectives of the suite. responsible for managing resources (capacity and
    productivity) and meeting operational demands.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
Overall market
segment custodian
  • Be the point of reference in country for Private Banking, informing,
    advising, liaising and communicating with relevant stakeholders to implement
    the Private Banking value proposition
  • Deep knowledge of the high net worth market and where the Private
    Banking problems/opportunities lie for Stanbic/Standard Bank in country.
  • Have full accountability and responsibility for identifying,
    quantifying, and highlighting any significant issues and growing trends
    that have implications for the profitability of the Private Banking
    segment in country.
  • Develop action plans to increase market share to desired level.
  • Formulate, drive, measure and manage the sales performance strategy
    for Private Banking.
  • Lead projects relating to the offering of a superior Private Banking
    offering in country.
  • Influence sales and service target setting, financial budgets,
    marketing spend and sponsorships as it relates to Private Banking.
  • Provides PBB Head with a monthly report on Private Banking
    performance, including financial results, sales, credit, service, HR,
    compliance, etc.
  • Take decisions to influence and shape operations based on
    segment/value proposition value drivers.
  • Ultimately responsible for ensuring consistent customer experiences
    across all touch points with Stanbic/Standard Bank.
  • Provide input into the development of a complaint resolution process
    in country.
  • Monitor and identify complaint trends and develop action plans to
    address service gaps.
  • Establish, monitor and manage service level agreements, service
    standards and turnaround times for the country in line with the Private
    Banking value proposition.
  • In need, arbitrate Credit decisions.
  • Segment insight
  • Thorough understanding of the Private Banking landscape in country,
    including but not limited to the market size, market growth, market
    shares, market potential for Stanbic/ Standard Bank, customer profiles and
    customer profitability.
  • Continually assess the value proposition by understanding the unique
    needs of Private
  • Banking customers in country, developing an extensive knowledge of
    competitor offerings and service propositions and keeping abreast of
    changing market dynamics.
  • Deep knowledge of competitor offerings and activities with the
    purpose to understand and communicate differentiators.
  • Influence/shape research projects.
  • Develop, enhance and analyse MIS platforms to inform planning and
    performance management processes.
Overseeing of
execution:
  • Ensure that the Private Banking value proposition is clearly
    communicated to all stakeholders and that clients receive an efficient and
    superior service offering through effective implementation.
  • Drive the implementation of the Private Banking value proposition
    through direct and indirect teams.
  • Arbitrate across stakeholders without compromising the essence of
    the value proposition.
  • Oversee the adoption and delivery of the value proposition within
    the Private Banking Suite.
  • Ensure that all principles stipulated in the value proposition are
    met and adhered to consistently. Ensure the ongoing alignment of the value
    proposition across the country.
  • Initiate and manage customer migrations from the Branch to the Suite
    and the Private Banking offering.
  • Guide and influence the structuring of Private Banker portfolios in
    line with optimal capacity benchmarks.
  • Act as change agent by facilitating the alignment of operational
    systems and processes to support change. Communicate change and motivate
    others to take action supporting the change. Recognise and reward change
    efforts.
  • Ensure local financial legislation is adhered to and the appropriate
    levels of compliance are maintained in terms of Stanbic/Standard Bank
    requirements.
Suite management
  • Drive staff behaviour that result in the acquisition of new
    qualifying clients as well as the continual adding of value to existing
    clients (increasing sales and financial revenue through cross-selling).
  • Identify and minimise all operational risks.
  • Understand and control quality of lending processes by reducing the
    number of excesses, unlimitised accounts, overdrawn accounts and overdue
    reviews.
  • Understanding and aligning the Suite to the overall strategic
    objectives of the Bank.
  • Provide direction, clarity and accountability to team to deliver on
    business objectives.
  • Plan, initiate and drive sales tactics and activities to meet and
    exceed annual sales targets.
  • Implement action plans to meet targets set for incentive campaigns.
  • Network/team work within Personal and Business Banking to leverage
    and identify business opportunities.
  • Negotiate through multiple stakeholders to deliver customer
    solutions.
  • Effectively and timeously attend to and resolve all complaints.
  • Ensure that the Suite is providing a consistent superior level of
    customer service through Private Bankers.
  • Conduct joint client visits with Private Bankers to top clients with
    the purpose to coach Private Bankers, identify training gaps and stay in
    touch with customer needs.
  • Ensure adequate levels of product knowledge, credit skills, sales
    and service skills, etc within the Suite and arrange formal training where
    gaps have been identified.
  • Mentor and coach staff to constantly ensure that the Suite
    environment is conducive to the retention of high performance staff and
    the attraction of new staff.
  • Responsible for performance management and addressing poor
    performance.
  • Recruit and appoint staff of the right calibre to ensure that the
    quality of the value proposition to be delivered is not compromised and
    customer expectations are met
  • Ensure talent management by ongoing succession planning, enforcing
    the career path and identify and groom potential

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the Stanbic Bank Head Private Banking should
    have eight to ten years retail banking experience with some experience in
    the affluent/high net worth market.
  • A seasonal banker with a minimum of five years banking experience.
  • Exposure/experience in strategy execution.
  • Exposure/experience in project management.
  • People management experience.
  • Extensive sales/marketing experience
  • Good knowledge of the banks products, services and Sales Standards.
  • Understanding of the regulatory environment governing financial
    services. Knowledge of local competitor tactics, distribution channels and
    product offerings.
  • Experience in managing a diverse range of people and activities are
    essential.
  • Practical knowledge on how to input, access, and utilize information
    from the network/systems to analyze and forecast trends.
